Chapter 295
Waverly was speechless.
Seriously, there weren’t enough words in the world for how dumbfounded she felt.

Sarah was quick on the uptake. She got what Nina was doing right away. “Waverly, looks like you’ve finally wised up. I’m really glad.
“We’re family. We should have each other’s backs and make life better together. If your own family is strong, nobody in your in-laws will dare mess with you. Just take care of yourself from now on.”
Waverly was speechless.
‘What could I even say to that?’ she thought.
Nina had talked her up so much that Waverly couldn’t even get a word out. All she could do was force a sheepish smile.
Hazel, having learned a thing or two from Nina, quickly stepped up and grabbed Waverly’s arm. “Sorry, Waverly, I really got you wrong. I thought you were…Please forgive me.”
Waverly gulped, gave an awkward smile, and nodded. “We’re family, let’s not dwell on it.”
Waverly didn’t notice, but Martin and Matthew were sitting off to the side, their faces so dark they could’ve been carved out of coal.
“Alright, everyone, let’s dig in. We’ve all been so worried about Hazel that nobody is really eating,” Sarah said, gesturing for everyone to take their seats.
At the dining table, the Swanson family all wore different expressions.
Vivian and Lily did their best to blend into the background, trying not to draw any attention.
Martin and Matthew, on the other hand, sat there with faces as dark as thunder, not saying a single word.
As for the rest of the family, they seemed in good spirits.
Except for Linda, who didn’t look too happy.
Sarah gave her a pointed look. “Linda, you look like you’ve got something on your mind.”
Linda glanced at Nina, hesitated, and bit back what she wanted to say. “No, it’s nothing.”
“If you’ve got something to say, just spit it out. We’re family. No need to hide anything,” Sarah said.
Linda hesitated for a moment, but finally couldn’t hold back. She turned to Waverly and said, “Waverly, don’t take this the wrong way, but next time, at least give everyone a heads up.
“Luna was stressing out over Hazel and finally got a chance to meet Professor Calderon, but missed it because

of all this-
Before she could finish, Luna cut her off. “Mom, stop. There’ll be other chances.”
Luna thought, ‘No way Waverly took Hazel away just to help her.
‘Still, if Nina says so, there’s probably a reason for it.
‘I definitely don’t want my mom and Waverly getting into it.
‘I don’t want to mess things up for Nina.’

Linda’s voice rose, clearly ticked off. “What other chances? You’ve got your college entrance exams next year. This is your make-or-break year! With Professor Calderon helping you out, getting into Betrico University would’ve been a done deal. And now, just great…”
Linda shot a look at Hazel, but left the rest unsaid.
Hazel kept her head down, mumbling, “Sorry, Linda. Sorry, Luna.”
“It’s not your fault, don’t say that,” Luna said, pulling at Linda’s sleeve, trying to get her to stop.
Linda was still annoyed, but seeing Nina sitting there with that look on her face, she finally just clammed up and didn’t say anything else.
‘Looks like I’ll just have to try to find another professor at Betrico who might be willing to mentor Luna,’ Linda thought, feeling helpless.
Waverly kept her head down, quietly eating, not daring to say a word, afraid the drama might drag her in.
The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.
Everyone just ate in silence.
Nina didn’t say a word the whole time.
After dinner, Nina put down her utensils and glanced at Luna. “So, you want to go to Betrico University?”
Luna nodded. “Yeah.”
Betrico University was the school she’d always dreamed of.
Of course, if she didn’t get in, she had other options in mind.
Nina didn’t answer Luna right away. She just took her time wiping her mouth with a napkin, then said casually, “Tomorrow, come with me. I’ll introduce you to someone.”
With that, Nina headed upstairs.
