“You want to see him? Or are you trying to speak up for Vance?” Nina asked, her voice flat.

“No. I just want to know what kind of end they met,” Joanna said after a pause. “I know you’ve got your own plans for Waverly, so I won’t get into that.

“But when it comes to Theodore and Vance, I want their fate to be even worse. I know you can pull it off, and I’ll pay you if you do.”

Nina raised an eyebrow. “Vance is your own son. Are you really okay with that?”

Joanna pressed her lips together. “Honestly, as his mother, of course, I care. I carried him for nine months. But if he can do something like that to his own sister, then he deserves whatever happens to him. He brought this on himself.”

“And what did you do? When your dad and your grandma bullied me, you just sided with them and blamed me like I was the villain.

“I used to think I failed as a mother, that you just inherited all of Theodore’s rotten traits. But turns out, you’re not even my real son. You and your dad are birds of a feather, thick as thieves!

“All for Evelyn, you dragged me through the mud, left me struggling, while your whole family lived it up on the money I spent years saving, acting like nothing ever happened.”
