Chapter 306
Chapter 306
When Nina arrived, Linda had just gotten home.
She’d been trying to get Luna’s transfer paperwork handled, but it hadn’t gone smoothly.

Luna was a top student in her second year in high school, ranking third in her grade. If she put in the effort during her senior year, she’d have no problem getting into Betrico University.
The school didn’t want to let go of such a promising student, so they refused to approve the transfer.
Linda had pulled every string she could these past few days, but the principal still wouldn’t budge. She was at her wit’s end.
School was starting in just a few days, and if Luna’s transfer wasn’t sorted out, they wouldn’t be able to leave on time.
Senior year was the most important year, and every day wasted was a day lost. Linda didn’t want Luna to get distracted by all this, but she also couldn’t bear to see Luna’s future ruined.
It looked like she’d have to get tough and force the school to let Luna go.
Lost in thought, Linda looked up and saw Nina had just walked in the door.
She paused, a little surprised. “Nina? What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to see Luna,” Nina said.
A flash of panic flickered in Linda’s eyes. “Luna went on a trip. She’s not here right now.”
Nina narrowed her eyes. “A trip? School is about to start. Why would she go on a trip now?”
Linda looked uneasy. “She is about to hit senior year, and she is feeling a lot of pressure. She just wanted to take a short break and chill out for a few days. She’ll be back before school starts.”
Nina gave Linda a cold, hard stare. After a long silence, she finally asked, “Why didn’t Luna go study with Camden?”
Linda’s eyes darted away, and she cleared her throat. “Nina, thanks for helping Luna get in touch with Camden, but after thinking it over, she decided she’d rather get into Betrico University by her own effort.
“Before she left, she wanted me to say sorry for turning down your kindness.”
Nina paused, her voice cool. “Really? Fine, I understand.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
She’d only taken a couple of steps when a loud crash suddenly came from upstairs.
Nina stopped in her tracks. “What was that noise?”

Linda forced a laugh. “We’re getting some renovations done, probably just one of the workers upstairs dropped something.”
Nina didn’t respond. She just gave Linda a cold, lingering stare, then turned and left without looking back.
Linda finally breathed a sigh of relief once Nina was completely out of sight.
Linda thought, ‘Nina is no fool. She would probably catch on soon that I have kept Luna hidden away.
‘No way!
‘Not a second to lose. I have to get Luna’s transfer done, and fast.’
Before she even set foot inside, Linda turned right around and headed out again.
Back in her room, Nina pulled out her laptop.
Her slender fingers flew across the keyboard, working fast.
After a while, she stopped, her eyes locked on a blinking red dot on the screen, her brows furrowed.
Luna’s phone was showing up right at Linda’s place.
Nina thought, ‘Why would Linda say Luna isn’t home?
‘Could something have happened to Luna?
‘No, that’s not it.
‘If something had really happened to Luna, Linda would be the one most anxious.
‘She’d definitely be asking for help!’
Nina propped her chin on her hand, her mind racing with possibilities.
Nina thought, ‘If Luna wasn’t in any real trouble, then chances were, someone was keeping her locked up.
‘Who would lock her up?
‘Could it be Linda?
‘Or maybe Michael?
‘Michael was way too soft-hearted to ever lock Luna up.
‘It didn’t really seem like Linda would do that either.
‘She has two daughters and absolutely spoils them. Linda treated both of them like precious gems.

‘It really didn’t seem like she’d ever do something like locking Luna up.
‘If it’s not Michael or Linda, then who else would have Luna locked up in their house?
‘Or maybe it really is Michael or Linda who is keeping Luna locked away.
‘Why would they lock her up?
‘Did Luna find out some secret?’
Nina’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully as she snapped her laptop shut.
Looks like she’d have to sneak over to Linda’s place tonight.
