Chapter 309

Meanwhile, Theodore and Vance were still out there, living it up and hurting even more people.

She’d always been timid and weak, but today, for once, she actually felt amazing.

She finally understood that if she didn’t want to get bullied, she had to be strong.

With that thought, Hazel pulled out a wad of cash from Joanna and said, “Get on your knees and pour my mom a drink. Now.”

Vance hesitated, but Hazel’s expression stayed icy. “Think it through. This is your last shot. If you don’t do it, we’ll walk out and leave you to your fate. And if you don’t hit your quota today, you know exactly what’s coming for you.”

Vance shuddered all over. Without thinking, he quickly grabbed the cash from Hazel’s hand. Already kneeling, he poured a glass of wine and presented it to Joanna, bowing his head in submission.

Joanna took the glass and handed it to Hazel. “Hazel, come share a drink with me tonight. We survived hell together. Here’s to making it out alive and to brighter days ahead.”

Hazel nodded. She wasn’t a drinker, but tonight, she wanted to drink for her new life.

Seeing that Joanna’s glass was empty, Vance hurried to refill it.

He finally figured out that with Nina backing them up, there was no way Joanna and Hazel would ever let him off easy.

So, he figured he might as well just obey. Serving Joanna was still a thousand times better than dealing with those psychos.

At worst, it was just some humiliation, but at least they wouldn’t do anything truly twisted to him. Serving them was a small price to pay for keeping his life.

Seeing this, Theodore knew he wasn’t getting out of this one. He quickly dropped to his knees and poured drinks for all of them.

Each of them, Nina, Joanna, and Hazel, now had a glass of wine in front of them.

Joanna lifted her glass toward Nina. “Nina, thank you. If it weren’t for you, I would’ve gone to my grave thinking Vance was really my son. Let me toast to you for everything you’ve done for Hazel and me.

“We may not have much to offer, but if you ever need us, just say the word, and we’ll be there for you, no questions asked.”

“That’s what I should do, Aunt Joanna,” Nina replied with a faint smile.

She might be hard-edged, but she always remembered those who helped her.

She could still recall, back when she was a kid, and Vivian and Waverly would starve and abuse her, Joanna

She didn’t interact much with Joanna because Joanna wasn’t much of a talker. But she knew Vivian treated her badly.

Joanna couldn’t interfere, but on rare occasions, she’d sneak Nina a bit of money, not much, just enough so Nina wouldn’t go hungry, and always be careful so Vivian wouldn’t notice.

That was just how Nina was. Anyone who ever had her back, she’d always do everything she could to pay them back.

As soon as Nina and Joanna finished their drinks, Theodore and Vance hurried to refill their glasses.

Joanna picked up her glass and dumped the wine onto the floor. “This one’s for my late son. I hope he gets reincarnated into a family that truly loves him and never has to deal with a bastard like Theodore as his father again.

“I also hope he can let go of all that hatred, so he can rest in peace. As for revenge, I’ll make sure his death is avenged. As his mother, that’s my promise.”

Joanna slammed her glass down on the marble table and then turned to Nina and Hazel. “Hazel, you and Nina, go wait outside. You don’t need to see what comes next.”

Nina didn’t object, and Hazel just nodded and followed. They left the private room without a word.

Once they were gone, only Joanna, Theodore, and Vance were left in the private room.
