She glanced at Grace. “Have a doctor keep an eye on her. The poison will hit hard within five days. If whoever poisoned her gets impatient, they might trigger it tonight. So from now on, no food, no drinks, not even water.”
Nina paused, then added, “Get her a fresh, completely sterilized room. She’ll have to stay there until I get the Poisonous Herb. Buy her brand new clothes, everything, inside and out. Do it yourself.”
Ryan might act a little shameless around her, but he was super careful with stuff that mattered. She knew he’d get it done right.
Ryan nodded. “Got it.”
Even if Nina hadn’t said it, he wasn’t about to let anyone else take charge.
Grace had just arrived in Riverdale, and now she was poisoned. Someone in this house had to be behind it.
Until Nina cured Grace, Ryan wasn’t letting anyone else handle anything.
Nina thought for a moment. “If you follow my instructions exactly, whoever’s behind this won’t be able to trigger the poison anytime soon.”
She glanced at Ryan. She’d planned to force him to sign that shares contract, but now wasn’t the time. “I’ll call Scarlet and have her bring the herbs over,” she said.
Ryan suddenly remembered. “Scarlet’s not at the cottage. I’ll go get her myself.”
The cottage where Nina and Scarlet used to live was a quick four-hour round trip from Riverdale.
Nina was taken aback. “She’s not there?”
“You didn’t know?” Ryan was caught off guard.
Nina frowned, “Nope, no clue.”
Ryan’s expression turned serious. “A few days ago, I heard you went back to Scarlet’s cottage, so I went to find you. But everything there was gone, and Scarlet had vanished. I thought you’d know about it.”
Instantly, Nina’s face darkened.
‘Scarlet disappeared without a word, and now her poison was used on Grace.
‘What the hell is going on? Did Scarlet do this? Does she have some beef with the Foster family?
‘And where did Scarlet go? Why didn’t she say anything to me?’ Nina wondered.
After a brief pause, she said, “Elaine will go instead. You stay here and watch Grace.”
If Scarlet were around, Nina should’ve gone herself. But she was afraid that if she left, something might happen to Grace, and she wouldn’t make it back in time.
Ryan nodded. “Elaine, thanks for helping out.”
Elaine sighed. She really didn’t want to be nice to Ryan, but this wasn’t the time for their usual drama. “I’m only doing this for Nina,” she said.
Ryan didn’t say anything else.

Nina gave a few quick instructions and left with Elaine.
Only then did the Foster family elders snap out of their daze.

Grace was the first to speak up. “Hold on, what were you guys talking about? Poison? Me? Are you serious?”
‘Come on, I feel totally fine. Poisoned? No way. Are they messing with me?’ Grace thought, completely bewildered.
Maria asked, “Ryan, what’s going on? Nina’s a healer? Grace was poisoned? But she looks perfectly normal, not a single sign anything’s wrong.”
‘She’s eating, drinking, singing, even dancing; she looks perfectly healthy!’ she thought, skeptical.
Charles was freaking out. “Oh my God, stop talking and get Grace to the hospital. If we waste time, who knows what could happen.”
With that, he scooped Grace up, ready to rush her to the hospital.
Ryan blocked his path. “Stay put. Just follow Nina’s instructions.”
Right after, Ryan whipped out his phone and called. “Lock down the house. Not even a fly gets out.”
“Are you insane? Your mom’s been poisoned, and you want her to sit at home? You ungrateful brat, you’re messing with her chance to get better,” Charles exploded.
Zachary, looking worried, chimed in, “Ryan, if Grace’s really poisoned, we need to get her to the hospital right now. Keeping her home ain’t gonna cut it.”
“You can trust Nina’s skills with your life,” Ryan said, dead serious. “If she can’t fix this, then nobody can.”
After a few quick reminders, he headed out to buy Grace brand-new clothes.
Tonight was going to be a long, sleepless night.
