Before Elaine could speak, Nina’s face darkened. She raised her hand, a needle suddenly appearing between her fingers.

Elaine and Ryan, who normally couldn’t stop arguing, instantly teamed up like pros. Elaine quickly hugged Nina, while Ryan grabbed Grace and pulled her back.

Caught off guard, Grace nearly fell to the ground.

“Ryan, are you trying to murder me? Are you crazy?” she yelled, furious.

Ryan shot her a frosty glance. “Back off, or you’ll regret it.”

Elaine held Nina tight. “Whoa, calm down. This is your future mother-in-law. You can’t hurt her.

“I may not like Ryan much, but I can’t deny how good he is to you. Guys like him don’t grow on trees. If you go after his mom, you two are done for.”

Ryan let out a sigh. “My mom didn’t mean it. I’m sorry on her behalf.”

Nina stared at Elaine and Ryan for what felt like forever, confused.

“She’s been poisoned. I was just blocking her energy channels to stop the poison from spreading. What’s the big deal?” she asked.

“What?” Elaine and Ryan were both stunned.

After a long pause, Elaine said, “She just put on perfume, and you can’t stand it when someone wearing perfume tries to hug you. Aren’t you pissed?”

“She didn’t put on any perfume,” Nina sighed, feeling helpless.

Nina rubbed her temples. “That’s not perfume. That’s poison.”

She might’ve split up with Ryan, but there was no real bad blood between them. She’d never just stand by and watch his mom die right in front of her.

That was why she’d tried to use a needle to seal Grace’s energy channels and stop the poison from spreading.

“Huh?” Elaine was stunned. ‘Poison that smells like fancy perfume? That doesn’t make any sense,’ she thought.

Ryan narrowed his eyes. “What kind of poison is it?”

He never doubted Nina’s skills. She was the Miracle Doctor, a legendary traditional healer.

“Lover’s Bane,” Nina replied, her brows knitting together in a grave expression. “It’s a passion poison, the most dangerous type.”

‘Scarlet is super fond of Ryan and knows all about his family. She said more than once that she wanted me to be with him, so he could look after me.

‘It doesn’t make sense for her to go after the Foster family. But honestly, who else would even have access to this poison?’

Ryan’s expression darkened as he asked in a low voice, “Is there a cure?”

“Yeah,” Nina replied. “For now, I can only use needles to control the poison. To completely cure her, I’ll need my special Poisonous Herb.”

She went quiet for a second, then said, “I checked Grace. She’s been poisoned for less than three days; the poison hasn’t activated yet. Tomorrow, I’ll get Scarlet to bring the herbs, and we’ll fix her up. But for today…”
