Chapter 36
Martin choked for a moment but stubbornly pressed on. “If she won’t show the proposal, I’m betting she stole it from me and Lily.”
Suddenly, a thought struck Lily. She blurted out, “Exactly, Grandma. I spent all night on that proposal, and everyone knows it.
“Nina was up all night too, and right before we were supposed to meet SN’s CEO, she showed up out of nowhere. She must have stolen our proposal.”
In truth, the proposal was a team effort between Lily and Martin. Martin designed the main structure, and Lily handled the details.
It was Lily’s first time creating a proposal, so she’d been completely lost. That was why she’d pulled an all-nighter to get it done.
Last night, while getting water, Lily caught Nina on the phone.
Lily hadn’t thought much of it then. But now, she was convinced Nina had used that moment to swipe their proposal.
“That sneaky Nina! Stealing my hard work to get the Swansons’ attention. She thinks she can get away with this? No way, Lily seethed.
Sarah’s face darkened. “If you don’t have any proof, I suggest you all shut up.”
“If you think we’re making this up, let Nina show the proposal and we’ll see,” Vivian said, shooting Nina a glare.
‘I knew Nina was trouble. She just got back and already tried stealing Lily’s proposal. Who knows what chaos she’ll cause if she stays?’ she thought.
“Exactly!” Linda, Robert’s wife, chimed in. “Sarah, I know you love Nina, but be realistic. We’re a respected family in the city; we can’t have a thief in the house.”
Judy, Michael’s wife, sneered, “Nina grew up with a nightclub hostess and barely went to school. There’s no way she could write a decent proposal.
“We agreed from the start. Whoever lands the contract manages the project. But if that proposal isn’t Nina’s and she’s running things, we’d all be on the hook if something goes wrong.”
Judy wasn’t defending Vivian; she was just worried the project might fail and everyone would have to chip in to cover the losses.
As soon as Judy finished, Michael, Nina’s third uncle, quickly tugged her sleeve. “Knock it off.”
Noticing Sarah’s dark expression, Judy huffed and fell silent.
Sarah swept a stern gaze across the room, finally landing on James “Your take?”
James glanced at Nina. “Since everyone’s questioning you, prove yourself.”
“Nina…” Sarah sighed, stuck.
She believed in Nina. But if she didn’t ask about the proposal, the family would never let it go. Yet if she did, Nina might get
hurt that she didn’t trust her.
“Grandma, don’t stress,” Nina said softly. “It’s true. The proposal wasn’t written by me.”

Martin exploded. “I knew it. Nina, you’ve got some nerve. Back five minutes and already stealing from us?”

Sarah was stunned. She never imagined Nina would actually steal Lily and Martin’s proposal. Now, even she couldn’t defend
her.
Nina narrowed her eyes and walked straight toward Martin.
Martin tensed. “What are you doing? You steal from us and act all righteous? Try touching me and see what happens.”
Without warning, Nina kicked Martin, sending him flying.
Martin spat out blood, seething. ‘Nina’s completely insane! She steals from us and then attacks me? There’s no one more shameless and crazier.
Nina didn’t even glance at Martin. Instead, she pointed at Henry. “Show me the proposal you gave Brian today.”
