The next day, this was Elaine’s first time having a meal with the swansons as one of their own.
Sarah had made it clear that everyone had to drop whatever they were doing and come back for the family dinner.
Sarah was taking this family dinner very seriously, personally overseeing every detail from start to finish.
Compared to the usual family dinners that always ended up tense and unpleasant, this time things were a lot more harmonious.
Maybe after all that went down, Linda and Judy seemed to have warmed up to Nina.
As long as Linda, Judy, and Vivian didn’t start any drama, things at home were actually pretty chill.
Sarah was very pleased with how things were going.
Of course, except for Vivian, who was clearly in a bad mood and making her displeasure obvious.
But nobody really cared about how she felt.
Ever since everyone found out about her and James, nobody was willing to put up with her anymore.
But Vivian was shameless. She knew nobody liked her, and she couldn’t care less.
For example, in today’s family dinner, it was supposed to be a warm and happy occasion, but Vivian just had to start putting on airs and act all high and mighty.
Vivian said, sitting there with her chin up, acting all superior, “Elaine, even though you’re from the Sinclair family and your status is higher than ours, now that you’ve married into the Swanson family, you’re one of us.
“I hope you’ll always put the Swanson family first and follow our rules. The way you acted today was out of line. You should really change that. Don’t give people a reason to say the Sinclair family didn’t teach you any manners.”
As soon as Vivian said that, the Swansons went silent, everyone shopping what they were doing to stare at her.
Nina gave Vivian a sidelong look, thinking, ‘What’s this arrogant peacock trying to show off for now?‘
She just found Vivian’s behavior at that moment just plain ridiculous and kind of funny.
‘Does she really think that now that she’s got a bit of power as Elaine’s elder, her status shot up overnight?‘ Nina thought.
“Out of line?” Elaine set her fork down, her tone calm and unhurried. “Mrs. Swanson, please, tell me, what exactly did I do that was so out of line?”
Vivian snorted, “Do you have even an ounce of respect for me? Do you even take me seriously? Now that you’re married to Ethan, I’m your elder.
“From yesterday until now, you haven’t spoken a single word to me, nor offered so much as a proper greeting. Is this how the Sinclair family conducts themselves?”
As soon as Vivian finished speaking, Judy and Linda exchanged a glance, both seeing the same look of annoyance in each other’s eyes.
Linda couldn’t help but lean over to Judy and whisper, “Do you think all those years of studying IQ have actually made her stupid?”
Judy’s mouth twitched. “Probably.”

They just got their marriage license. The wedding isn’t even done yet. Why does she expect Elaine to start flattering?‘ Judy thought. ‘She’s totally nuts!‘
“I seriously don’t get what James’s thinking,” Linda muttered. “Everyone knows Vivian tried to screw him over back then, but he still won’t divorce her. Now they just act like they’re sworn enemies, passing each other in the halls.”
Honestly, seeing Vivian every single day just gave Linda bad vibes.
Because of Vivian scheming against James, Linda felt like her standards were getting dragged down, too.
People would just gossip about the Swanson family’s women. Bu it wasn’t just Vivian. They were dragging her and Judy into it, too.
Just thinking about it is so annoying,‘ Linda thought.
Judy let out a sigh. “James must have his reasons for not divorcing, so just stay out of it. Anyway, let’s drop it. It’s Elaine’s first day here, and Vivian’s already throwing shade at her. Looks like Nina’s about to snap.”
Linda zipped it instantly.
Elaine scoffed, a hint of mockery in her voice. “So, Mrs. Swanson is that what you really want? To put me in my place?”
Vivian didn’t say a word, just tilted her chin up, clearly waiting for Elaine to greet her formally.
Elaine held out her hand and set it right in front of Vivian. “Hang it over.”
Vivian froze. “What do you mean?”
“So you want me to greet you formally, huh?” Elaine shot back. “But you expect me to do it for free? No gift? Mrs. Swanson, are you really that stingy?”
Linda couldn’t help herself and burst out laughing.
Judy tried to keep a straight face, but ended up snickering, too.
