Elliott chuckled softly, “You’re really soft–hearted, aren’t you?”

Lily lowered her head, mumbling, “I just don’t like it when people talk about my friends that way.”

“Relax. I’m just teasing you,” Elliott said.

Lily let out a sigh of relief. “As long as Miranda is happy, that’s all that matters.”

Elliott gave her a long, thoughtful look, then pulled out his phone. “Let me get your number.”

Lily paused, then said seriously, “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Miranda’s my friend, and you’re her fiancé. It just feels a little inappropriate for us to exchange contacts.”

Elliott laughed, “Seriously? Miranda asked me to look after you, didn’t she? How am I supposed to do that if we don’t have each other’s numbers?”

Lily’s cheeks flushed, and she quickly pulled out her phone to add Elliott’s contact.

When he accepted her friend request, Lily’s heart raced, thumping wildly in her chest. She felt like she was one step closer to Elliott now.

“After the party, I’m meeting up with some professors from Betrico University. Want to tag along?” Elliott said, putting his phone away, sounding totally chill.

“Really? Is it okay if I come?” Lily asked, her voice soft and a little hesitant.

“It’s fine, no problem at all. They’re all bringing their partners, too,” Elliott replied.

When Lily heard that, her cheeks turned even redder.

‘Wait, is he actually bringing me as his partner?‘ Lily thought, her heart fluttering with excitement.

“I’ll go,” Lily blurted out without even thinking.

Elliott nodded and didn’t say anything more. He excused himself to chat with some friends and slipped away to the other side of the room.

As he turned away, the smile faded from Elliott’s face.

He glanced over at Nina and silently mouthed, “You better figure out how you’re going to pay me back.”

‘Seriously, having to use my looks just to get close to that piece of work? I’m really getting the short end of the stick here,’ Elliott grumbled to himself.

Nina smirked and mouthed back, “Three cases.”

Elliott had been craving Nysa’s private brew for ages.

If it weren’t for that wine, Nina could’ve begged him all night, and he still wouldn’t have agreed.

Hearing Nina’s answer, Elliott broke into a satisfied grin.

After the party ended, Sarah, Linda, Judy, and their families were the first ones out the door. As for Vivian and her group, Sarah didn’t even bother to look their way.
