“The Chase family?” Martin’s face darkened a little. “How would they know?”

Waverly blurted out, terrified Martin might kill her, “I don’t really know. One time, I overheard Victor and Gianna talking in a room. Victor told her you weren’t James’s biological child and asked if he should tell James.

“That’s all I know, Martin. We’ve worked together for years. Please, just let me go. I swear, your secret dies with me. I’ll never breathe a word,” Waverly begged.

This time, Waverly was genuinely scared out of her mind.

“Let you go?” Martin let out a cold laugh. “If it weren’t for you, I could’ve done so much with that 3 billion from selling the land.

“But you blackmailed me, forced me to use it to pay off your gambling debts, and I ended up having to beg my father for money!”

Martin’s hand clamped around Waverly’s throat. “I waited all these years. If I’d just pulled everything off, I could’ve joined. the Nicholson family without a hitch. But you screwed it all up. And now you want mercy from me?”

“I-” Waverly stammered, her voice trembling as she tried to plead for mercy.

But Martin just pulled out a gun and aimed it right at her.

“No! You can’t kill me!” Waverly screamed. “If I die, my mom won’t stop until she finds out the truth. Sooner or later, they’ll pin it on you. And if they discover you’re not really a Swanson, they’ll never let you walk away alive!

“And Nina? Sarah means everything to her. Even if she doesn’t like me, I’m still Sarah’s daughter. For Sarah’s sake, she won’t let you walk free! You might not be afraid of the Swanson family but don’t tell me you’re not afraid of Nina.

Martin yelped in pain, and the gun slipped from his grasp, clattering to the floor.

Martin whipped his head around, eyes darting through the darkness. “Who’s there?”

Out of the darkness, Nina and Elaine slowly emerged.
