Chapter 414
Claire’s smile froze instantly. She stared at Nina at the head of the table as if she had seen a ghost. She thought, ‘How could she be sitting there? That’s the boss’s seat.
Nina hadn’t expected to bump into Claire here. She wondered. Does she study medicine?”
*Claire, do you know Ms. Swanson?” Qadir asked, surprised.
“Ms. Swanson?” Claire’s eyes widened in disbelief. She could hardly believe what she heard.
“She’s the new director here,” Qadir said, shooting Claire a suspicious look.
He thought, ‘I think Claire’s gaze at Nina is full of hostility. Did they have a problem before?”
“Director?” Claire’s voice shot up. “Uncle Qadir, have you lost your mind? She’s never even been to college. How could she possibly be in charge?”
“That’s not your concern.” Qadir’s face turned stern. “Sit down and get on with the meeting
He had no idea what was going on between Claire and Nina, but Nina was someone even Wylder had to respect.
Besides, everyone knew about Nina’s skills and her temper. He knew that if he wanted to advance and develop professionally, he had to follow someone like her.
No matter what kind of history Claire and Nina had, now that Nina was the director, he couldn’t let Claire get on her bad side.
Claire was stunned. She thought, ‘Uncle Qadir is respected by everyone at the institute. He’s not the director anymore, and he’s letting Nina take charge. And he seems completely convinced by her. Why?”
Claire was fuming. “Nina, are you only here because Ryan pulled some strings for you?”
Nina, who had been reading her documents and ignoring everyone, casually tossed them onto the desk with an air of disdain. She stared at Claire with a calm, cold glare.
Claire didn’t back down at all. Chin held high, she sneered. “Nina, you have no real talent. You just sleep with men to get ahead. You’re absolutely shameless.”
Before anyone could even process what was happening, Nina slapped her across the face.
Nina, full of menace, stood right in front of Claire. “Watch your mouth.”
“How dare you hit me?” Claire’s delicate face twisted with fury. “I’ll tear you apart
Claire launched herself at Nina, but before she could even touch her, Nina sent her flying with a swift kick.
Nina stared down at Claire, her voice icy and dismissive. “I’m only letting you off because of Jason. Now get lost”
Claire scrambled to her feet, shouting at Nina, “What gives you the right to kick me out? I earned my spot here fair and square. Who the hell do you think you are?*
Nina gave Claire an unreadable look.
Anyone who really knew her could see she was about to snap, especially Simon

He knew Nina inside out.
Just last night, she had rushed to Betrico, spent the whole night dealing with the three at the mental hospital, and immediately came to the institute afterward.
All morning, people at the institute had been causing trouble, and now here came Claire.
Nina usually lost her temper when she stayed up late. The only reason she’d kept her cool this long was because Sarah had told her not to lash out easily.
Simon was certain that if Claire ran her mouth one more time, Nina wouldn’t be able to hold back.
Simon shot Patrick a look.
Patrick got the message, and the two of them stepped forward, grabbing Claire and dragging her out.
Panic flashed in Claire’s eyes. “What are you doing? Let go of me.”
Yet her thrashing and shouting were useless. Simon and Patrick moved as if they hadn’t heard a thing.
Claire kept yelling, still unwilling to give up. “Uncle Qadir, no matter how capable Ryan is, he can’t protect an incompetent person acting recklessly in the institute?”
Qadir rubbed his forehead, feeling helpless. He didn’t get why his normally well-behaved niece was losing it like this.
He thought, ‘Why does she have to pick on Nina? Didn’t she notice that even Mr. Quentin just sat back and watched when Nina kicked her out?’
Qadir let out a sigh and turned to Nina. “Ms. Swanson, I—”
No sooner had he started speaking than Nina shot him a glance. “Are you going to leave with her?”
Qadir just fell silent, thinking, ‘Man, she’s just so grumpy.’
With no other options, Qadir shot Wylder a desperate look for help, but the latter didn’t even want to look at him.
Yet Qadir’s gaze was so obvious, and Wylder couldn’t ignore it even if he tried.
Wylder cleared his throat and said, “Well, she did pass the assessment to—”
Before he could finish, Nina cut in coldly, “So, this institute only hires idiots, huh?”
Claire exploded, shouting, “Who the hell are you calling an idiot?”
“You,” Nina replied, totally unfazed.
Claire screamed, practically ready to tear Nina apart, but with Simon and Patrick pinning her down, all she could do was flail her legs helplessly in the air.
Wylder rubbed his head. “The Goodwin family put money into this institute. Cut them some slack, okay?”
“How much did the Goodwin family actually invest?” Nina asked, her voice icy and her face blank.
Wylder hesitated, then said, “300 million.”
Nina pulled out a card and slapped it on the table. “I’ll put in one billion. Kick her out.”

Everyone was speechless. They thought, This new director is not just a genius; she’s richer than the Goodwin family. She can throw one billion around like it’s nothing’
Wylder had to fight every urge not to snatch that card up. “It’s not about the money.”
Nina shrugged, totally unfazed. “Should I just leave then?”
Wylder was left speechless. He thought, ‘Damn, every word this little brat said hit right at my weak spot!
Wylder sighed, pulled Nina aside, and said in a low voice, “I owe Rowdy a favor. Just do this for me, okay?”
Rowdy had personally come to him to get Claire into the institute.
Honestly, if Claire wasn’t capable, even Rowdy’s influence wouldn’t have meant a thing. The truth was, Claire had passed the exam fair and square, and she did have some real talent.
If he kicked Claire out just because of some personal drama, there was no way he could explain it to Rowdy.
Nina was just about to say that no one’s influence mattered to her when her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at it and found that it was Ryan.
Her expression shifted as she answered the phone.
“Nina, are you at the institute?” Ryan asked, his voice sounding weak.
Nina frowned. “Are you hurt?”
She knew Ryan too well; she could tell from his tone that something was wrong.
“It’s just a minor injury. Nothing to worry about,” Ryan said, forcing his breath to steady. “Nina, listen. Scarlet’s disappearance. has something to do with the Goodwin family.
“They’re probably about to send someone into the institute. Whoever it is, make sure you keep them on board.”
Nina glanced at Claire discreetly, making sure no one else noticed.
“You need to be careful. Word about the drug research you’re working on has spread. Someone is targeting you,” Ryan warned, his voice growing weaker. “And Jason—”
Before Ryan could finish, Felix’s urgent voice cut through the line. “Mr. Foster, are you okay?”
Suddenly, chaos broke out on the phone.
Nina’s grip on the phone tightened. She knew Ryan was in trouble.
