She shot Grace a glare. “With the Foster family’s status these days, who else could we possibly need to impress?”

Grace blinked, then her eyes lit up. “Is my daughter-in-law coming?”

Only Nina could make Maria care enough to put in the effort.

Just thinking about Nina made Grace happy.

Honestly, she really treasured her daughter-in-law.

Nina was gorgeous, loaded, smart, and best of all, she was the only one who could handle her precious son.

Who wouldn’t want a daughter-in-law like that?

Zachary cleared his throat. “Daughter-in-law? That’s not even close to happening yet. We invited her over without telling he you’d be here, so you two should just make yourselves scarce.”

With these two embarrassing in-laws around, he was worried they’d scare off his future granddaughter-in-law.

Charles looked helpless. “Dad, this is our home too. If we can’t be here, where are we supposed to go?”

Grace pouted. “I’m not leaving. I want to see my daughter-in-law

Zachary waved his hand dismissively. “Go wherever you want.”

The next second, he turned to Maria. “Come on, let’s go clean up in the kitchen.”

Maria nodded, and the two of them walked off without even glancing at Grace and Charles.

Watching them walk away, Grace sighed. “My daughter-in-law is coming over. It’d be rude if I didn’t get her a little something. Come on, honey, let’s go shopping.”

Charles was taken aback. “You want to buy even more? What about all those luxury jewels you already have?”

Grace was always roping him into shopping sprees, and their walk-in closet was overflowing with designer bags and expensive jewelry.

Most of it still has the tags attached.

Grace shot him a glare. “Do you really think old people and young people have the same taste? And besides, would I really give my daughter-in-law hand-me-downs?”

Charles rubbed his forehead and put his hands on his hips. “Grace, if anyone knows whether I’m old or not, it’s you.”

Grace’s cheeks instantly flushed like an apple.

After all, he kept her up plenty of nights.

“Will you just zip it?” Grace hustled Charles out of the Foster family house.

It was broad daylight. If anyone overheard them talking about stuff like this, it would be awkward.

Charles wrapped his arm around Grace’s waist, looking all serious. “Seriously, stop calling me old!”

Grace just wanted him to shut up, nodding like a bobblehead. “Okay, okay, I won’t say it anymore. Just zip it, okay?”

In Frontierland, Ryan lay on a bed made out of wooden planks, yes shut, his face pale and his jaw covered in dark stubble..

His

eyes

looked so sunken, almost lifeless.

He’d lost a lot of weight lately.

Felix walked over with a bowl of cereal. “Ryan, you haven’t eaten anything in three days. Come on, at least have a few bites,” he urged.

Ever since they set foot in Frontierland, someone had been trying to block their way at every turn. Assassination attempts, big and small, had come at them more than a hundred times.

They finally managed to find a place to hide, but their enemies still sniffed them out. In a rush, they had no choice but t move again and hole up in a bomb shelter.

But there was absolutely nothing here.

Felix had snuck out in the dead of night just to swipe this bit of cereal.

Felix had always prided himself on living an honest life, but now he needs to steal food. His pride lay in pieces.

Ryan pushed the bowl away. “Let the others have it. Is the signal back yet?”

‘If it weren’t for me, Felix wouldn’t have had to drag us into this no-signal zone!’ he thought.

Felix looked anxious. “Ryan, if you keep this up, your body won’t be able to take it. I’ve already sent someone out.”

Ryan waved him off. “Is the signal back yet?”

Ryan worried about how Nina was holding up.

He wanted to warn Nina to watch out for Jason, but he passed out before he could finish.

He just hoped Nina would understand what he was trying to say.
