Jason’s voice turned sharp. “If Nina sleeps with someone else, Ryn won’t take her, no matter how much he cares.”

He paused, then added, “But Nina is smart. We have to take it sloy, or she’ll catch on.”

Jason turned to Claire, his voice softening. “Claire, if Nina is not by Ryan’s side anymore, he’ll definitely begin to notice you.”

Jason loved Claire deeply, but the one Claire loved was Ryan. Even though Jason longed to spend his whole life with her, more than that, he just wanted her to be happy.

Claire hugged Jason tightly. “Jason, you’re way too good to me. Having you as my friend is the best thing ever.”

The warmth of her hug and the realness of her touch had Jason looked. He even caught a whiff of her soft, girly fragrance.

Right then, he thought, ‘If I died in her arms right now, I’d go ou smiling!

He struggled to keep his wild thoughts in check. He gave Claire reassuring pat on the back. “Claire, I’m also glad that we’re friends. No matter what happens, I’ll always be here for you.”

Claire gently pushed Jason away. “Hey, we’re friends, but we both have our own paths.”

She looked up at him. “Right, here’s another thing.”

She had come to Jason for these two things.

Jason gave her a gentle smile. “I’ve already got it covered.”

Claire finally let out a sigh of relief now that she had the answer she wanted. “Thanks.”

Claire’s eyes flickered with dark intent. She thought, ‘Well, Jason is more than a pawn; he’s a sharp knife I can use well. If I can’t have it, Nina sure as hell won’t either.’

Even after Claire was gone, Jason was caught up in the warmth of that hug.

He was thinking back on it, but mostly he was angry. Someone he cherished so much was overlooked by Ryan, and Nina was giving her a hard time.

He thought, ‘You’ll both have to pay for what you did to Claire!’

Nina had slept for a whole day straight at her place in Betrico. When she finally woke up, her phone was blowing up with over twenty missed calls.

Every single one was from Black Wolf.

Nina frowned, just about to call Black Wolf back, when Simon came in carrying breakfast.

“Morning.” Simon set the breakfast on the table. “Black Wolf called. He said by the time he and his team got there to rescue Ryan, he was gone. They couldn’t track him after that. No signal

Simon had overheard Black Wolf’s call, but he didn’t wake Nina. He knew she’d been up for more than a day and that she needed to rest.

He wanted Ryan to be safe, but what he cared about most was that Nina was alright.

“He left?” Nina frowned, then pulled up her laptop to try to locat Ryan. However, the signal had completely vanished.

“Black Wolf said by the time they got there, Ryan was already gone,” Simon said after a pause. “Boss, don’t stress. Since Ryan managed to get out on his own, he’s probably okay.”

Nina frowned. She wasn’t relaxed until she actually saw Ryan.

After a brief pause, Nina ordered, “Tell Black Wolf to double down on the search. We have to find him.”

“Got it,” Simon replied.

After washing up and grabbing a quick bite of breakfast, Nina was getting ready to head out to the Betrico Zenith Research Institute when her phone suddenly rang.

It was a call from Maria. She had made sure Nina had her number before the four of them left Riverdale.

Nina waved Simon away so he could get back to work, then she picked up the call. “Hi, Maria.”

Maria’s face lit up the moment she heard Nina’s voice. “Nina, I heard from Sarah that you’re in Betrico now. Why don’t you come over to our place? Zachary and I both miss you so much.”

“I’m afraid I can’t. I’ve been really busy lately,” Nina replied.

Maria was Sarah’s closest friend, but the last time, thanks to Claire coming over just to stir up drama, Nina’s visit to the Foster family turned into a total disaster.

Now that she was planning to stay in Betrico for a while, it was only right for her to drop by.

However, with Ryan still missing, she just wasn’t in the mood for any of that.

“Work never really ends, does it? It’s just one meal. It won’t take up much of your time.” Maria sighed. “Who knows what Ryan is up to? He’s gone without a trace.”

Maria paused for a moment, then asked, “Has Ryan reached out to you lately? Lately, people keep dropping things off at our place. I figured they were from you.”

Nina paused, a bit surprised. “Has someone been sending stuff to your house?”

“Yeah. Every single day. We have no idea what’s inside. They’re heavy as bricks. Since they’re Ryan’s, we didn’t feel right opening his packages,” Maria said.

Nina thought for a moment and said, “I’ll come over soon.”

Maria was surprised. “Really? That’s great. I’ll get dinner started right now.”

Nina pursed her lips. “Okay.”

Maria hung up the phone, buzzing with excitement as she started barking orders at the servants. “Quick, prepare the meal. Get my notebook from the room. It lists all the dishes Nina likes. Make them exactly how she prefers.”

After giving out all her instructions, Maria turned to Zachary. “She finally agreed. She’s coming over soon. We have to make a good impression.”

She thought, ‘Ryan isn’t around. We must do something to please Nina, or she’ll soon fall in love with someone else.

She still remembered that Nina had broken up with Ryan herself, and they still hadn’t patched things up yet.

Just as Zachary was about to say something, Grace jumped in, “Make a good impression? What for?”

Grace strolled in from outside, with Charles following close behind, holding a few branded shopping bags.

Zachary grumbled, “Why is it you two again? I thought Nina had shown up already.”

Grace and Charles were left speechless.

Grace walked over, looking a little hurt. “Are you two tired of us or something?”

Charles and Grace exchanged a look, thinking, ‘Ryan is only twenty-eight. How is that considered old? Isn’t it common knowledge that men are supposed to get more attractive as they age?

‘Why does Maria make it sound like he’s hopeless? Besides, Nina isn’t rejecting Ryan for being old; she’s rejecting him for being clingy.

“They’re just dating, and he wants to keep her all to himself. Who wouldn’t find that irritating?’

There was no way Grace would ever say that out loud in front of Maria, so she gave an awkward smile, trying to change the subject. “By the way, is someone coming over?”
