Chapter 450

ت

After Thomas left, Maria and the others finally made their way back to the hospital.

When they arrived, the surgery still wasn’t over.

Charles figured Maria was getting on in years and had already been dragged through a whole day of chaos. He suggested they head home and come back tomorrow to check on Zaire’s surgery.

But Maria wouldn’t hear of it.

She was convinced Thomas might show up again and try to snatch Zaire away, so she insisted on staying right there to keep watch.

Grace had the same idea as Maria; there was no way she was leaving either.

So in the end, everyone just camped out at the hospital, waiting together.

But that wait dragged on all night, all the way until morning.

The next day.

At 7 a.m., the operating room doors finally opened.

Nina walked out, looking utterly exhausted.

Grace immediately got up and caught Nina by the arm. “Nina, are you okay?”

None of them had gone home last night. They’d taken turns crashing in an empty hospital room to catch some sleep.

Grace had been the first to get some rest, so she was still feeling pretty fresh.

But when she looked at Nina, she could tell Nina looked absolutely wiped out.

Nina rubbed her temples. “I’m fine.”

After a pause, Nina asked, “You guys didn’t go home at all last night?”

While she was in surgery yesterday, she’d heard Maria and the others making a fuss outside.

But then the noise died down, and she figured they must’ve gone home.

“You were in there doing surgery, how could we just go home and not worry about you?” Grace helped Nina into a chair and added, “Plus, we were desperate to hear any news about Ryan.”

Grace fell silent for a moment before finally asking, “So… did it work? Was the surgery a success?”

“It was a success,” Nina replied.

Nina glanced at Grace, bit her lip, and stopped herself from saying more.

Grace immediately noticed Nina was holding something back, and her face went pale. “W-What’s wrong? Did something happen to Ryan?”

As soon as Grace said that, Maria and the others jumped up, staring anxiously at Nina.

Nina’s expression darkened as she fought to keep her anger in check. “Ryan… he might not survive.”

Chapter 450

Zaire wasn’t supposed to wake up so soon, but Nina jabbed him with silver needles and forced him awake,

She needed to know Ryan’s condition, she needed answers, and she needed them now.

Zaire told her that when he finally escaped, Ryan was barely hanging on.

Felix risked his life to cover his escape.

By now, they’re probably both… gone.

Grace’s knees buckled, and she couldn’t hold herself up; she passed out on the spot.

Nina reached out to catch her, but she was just too tired; her hand caught nothing but air.

Charles was quick to react and managed to catch Grace before she hit the ground.

Charles felt awful inside. He looked at Nina, his voice shaky: “Are you sure about that?”

That’s what Zaire told me,’ Nina said, her tone heavy. ‘But we won’t know for sure until he wakes up.”

Zaire was only conscious for about a minute; he could barely get a few words out before passing out again.

He just managed to mention the most crucial parts.

Nina took a deep breath and turned to Simon. “Get Zaire transferred out ASAP. Russell and his team will watch over him I’m heading out to the outskirts to retrieve something.”

It’s what Zaire managed to bring back.

Zaire was hunted the whole way, barely making it out alive.

Not trusting Betrico, he hid it on the outskirts the moment he arrived.

Now, she needed to go fetch it; there was no time to waste.

Simon looked at her with concern. “Let Sean go with you.”

He’d wanted to go with Nina himself, but he still had to take care of things here.

Nina glanced at Sean and just nodded. “Alright.”

As soon as Nina finished speaking, she reached for her phone to call Black Wolf, only to realize she’d left it at home.

Nina frowned.

She’d been so swamped lately she couldn’t even think straight; she’d actually forgotten her phone at home.

Nina was desperate to find out how Ryan was doing, so she didn’t waste a second. She just gave Charles a quick heads-up and
