Vivian shot Ethan a killer look. She had no idea why she’d started this argument with Nina. Now she just looked like an idiot.

Her two sisters-in-law sat there, ready to watch her crash and burn.

Vivian took a deep breath, trying to keep her cool. Deadpan, she said, “Chill. As long as Martin’s around, we’re not going broke.”

Nina snorted, her smile dripping with sarcasm.

Martin’s face instantly turned ugly, but he couldn’t bring himself to confront Nina about it.

After all, the project he’d poured his heart into had been snatched away by Henry, whose proposal was way better than his.

Martin was supposed to be the family’s golden boy, yet he’d lost to someone who probably couldn’t even pass an IQ test. That was too embarrassing.

Vivian must’ve thought of the project too. Her face flushed, and she shut up. Any more talk would just make her the laughingstock.

Sarah had been about to tear into Vivian, but watching Nina shut her down made Sarah feel way better.

Once Nina sat down, Sarah spoke up. “Okay, let’s get down to business. The final contract with SN Corporation is locked in. I went to SN myself and saw that Henry’s plan got the green light. So he’s running the show.

“The deal with SN is a big one. Whatever you’re thinking, I don’t care. You all need to help Henry pull this off.

“I talked to Brian today. We’re hosting a party and hoping to get SN’s CEO to show up. If he comes, it could help us boost our partnership with SN.”

As soon as Sarah finished, Nina’s second uncle, Robert, cut in, “Mom, SN’s CEO never goes to these things. Don’t waste your time.”

Sarah’s eyes dulled. “Still, it’s worth trying. Our family isn’t what it used to be. If we can get the CEO’s support, maybe we’ll turn things around.”

Just landing a project with SN wasn’t enough for the Swanson family to really move forward. They needed face time with the CEO, to at least get on his radar.

If they could leave a good impression, they might get a slice of the pie for other SN projects later on.

Sarah let out a heavy sigh. At her age, she was tired of fighting these battles. But when her husband died, he’d put the whole family in her hands. She had to keep things together, no matter what.

She didn’t expect the Swanson family to become a huge success, but at least it wouldn’t go downhill. That way, she kept her promise to her late husband.

Nina looked at Sarah, wanting to say something. But in the end, she just bit her lip and stayed quiet.

The rest of the Swanson family understood how huge it would be if the SN Corp CEO showed up, so no one argued with

Sarah.

“And another thing,” Sarah continued, “Nina’s been back for a while. I’m not here to dig up old drama, but she’s been through a lot over the years. She deserves some real compensation.”

Sarah glanced at Vivian and said coolly, “I’ve already consulted an expert. The fifteenth of next month is perfect. I’m holding a formal homecoming party for Nina.”

Vivian immediately shot that down. “No way. I’m not letting this happen. If you throw Nina a welcome-home party, what about Lily? Everyone will realize she’s not the real daughter.”

Right now, only a few people in their circle knew the truth. Most people still believed Lily was the Swanson family’s daughter.

But a big public party would expose everything. Lily would be completely humiliated. Vivian was determined to protect her.
