brother.”

Nina laughed, saying, “That’s Ryan for you.”

“Right back at you,” Ryan said with a grin.

Honestly, his moves were nothing compared to what Nina pulled off.

Nina chuckled and turned to Simon, saying, “Send a big donation to Betrico University, and make sure Mrs. Swanson’s name is front and center on the human gene research project. Help her get that gene-based drug.”

Simon grinned and said, “Once I heard from Riverdale, I wired the first $300 million to Betrico University. Mrs. Swanson isn’t just in the gene research; she’s leading it. The university made it official this morning, so everyone who matters already knows.”

Ryan glanced up. He said, “Simon’s really grown up.”

Simon rolled his eyes. He said, “Oh, so now that you’re alive and kicking, you’re acting all smug again?”

Ryan fell silent.

Ryan thought, ‘His mouth is just as savage as Nina’s!

“Yeah, definitely more mature now,” Nina said.

Simon was speechless.

Simon thought, ‘Figures.

‘Nina and Ryan are basically partners in crime!

Nina placed a white piece on the board, then stood up and stretched her shoulders. She said, “Being the one pulling the strings really is the easy part.”

Ryan glanced up and saw his black pieces completely surrounded by Nina’s white ones.

He was utterly defeated, not a single piece left standing,

Ryan let out a soft laugh. He said, “Nina, you really do have the makings of a strategist.”

Nina smirked and replied, “Nah, I’d rather be just a piece on the board. Too bad I’m not the kind to play by the rules.”

“Alright,” Ryan said, grabbing his coat and heading out with Nina

When Nina and Ryan walked into the room, Iris was sitting on the edge of the bed, gazing out the window, lost in her own world.

Nina lingered in the doorway for a moment before she finally said, “Iris.”

Iris froze for a split second when she saw Nina, then her whole face lit up with excitement as she sprang to her feet. She said, “Nina. I finally get to see you.”

Nina glanced at the two guards standing by Iris’s side and said coolly, “I need to talk to her alone.”

The guards replied with blank faces, “Sorry, we haven’t received any orders allowing you to visit her alone.”

“Go ahead and get permission,” Nina said, cool as ever. “Or don’t bother; I’ll just walk out with her. Honestly, you guys aren’t even in my league.”

The two guards traded glances, then one of them stepped out to call their boss for approval.

If it were anyone else, they wouldn’t even bother checking with their boss.

But with Nina, they figured it was safer to get permission first.
