Chapter 514
Nina passed her drink to Ryan, then followed Jason upstairs in the hotel.
As soon as Nina walked into the room, an unusual fragrance hit her.
It was the scent of sandalwood.
Nina glanced over and noticed a stick of incense burning in an incense burner on the table.
But the room was empty; no one else was there.
Nina turned to Jason, asking, “Where is he?”
Jason shot Nina a look, then walked over and sat down on the sofa. He said, “Nina, I want you to divorce Ryan.”
Nina kept her cool and smiled at Jason. She asked, “Excuse me?”
Jason leaned back on the sofa, legs crossed, speaking slowly. “For old times’ sake, if you agree to divorce Ryan, we can still b friends.”
Jason looked up at Nina. He said, “Ryan and I are ride-or-die brothers. I don’t want to go against him because of a woman, so I’m sorry, but you’ll have to be the one to compromise.”
Nina shoved her hands in her pockets, her icy gaze fixed on Jason. She said, “Just so you know, you don’t even have what it takes to be my friend.”
Jason chuckled, glancing at the incense burner on the table. He said, “I know you’re a top-notch doctor, so slipping you something in a drink wouldn’t work. But this incense? I paid a fortune for it.
“The sedative in there is like mixing a hundred different drugs; there’s no way anyone’s coming up with an antidote for this anytime soon.”
Jason said coolly, “If you agree to divorce Ryan, I’ll hand over the antidote. You go your own way, Ryan and Claire get their happy ending, and everybody’s satisfied. But if you say no…”
Jason snapped his fingers, and ten men burst into the room.
Jason gave a wicked grin, saying, “They’ll make sure you’re thoroughly used, Nina. After they’re through with you, Ryan won’t even look at you again.”
Nina glanced at the incense on the table, then looked away; unimpressed. She said, “You know why Claire isn’t into you?”
Before Jason could get a word in, Nina said, “You’re just stupid, and you don’t even know it. Claire’s not the brightest, but being with you would drag her down even more. She’s smart enough to keep you as her plan B.”
Jason’s face darkened as he shot to his feet. He said, “Cut the crap You’ve got one minute left, think carefully before you anything.”
Of course, Jason knew Claire was just keeping him around as her backup guy.
But he refused to admit it.
As long as he kept lying to himself, he could pretend he still matered to Claire,
Jason gawked at Nina as he’d just seen a ghost. He asked, “How the hell are you still standing?”
Nina strolled toward Jason, her steps slow and steady. She said, “Oh, did I forget to tell you? When I
obathe
in all sorts of weird concoctions just for fun. Now? Poisons don’t even touch me.”
Jason was completely stunned.
Jason thought, his mind spinning, ‘A human antidote?
‘Nina is actually immune to all poisons?
‘Is she nuts or something?
‘Becoming a human antidote isn’t something you just become overnight.
‘One’s got to soak in all sorts of crazy potions from the time one was a kid, and the stuff they use is insanely rare.
‘And that’s not even the worst part; if one wants to be totally untouchable by poison, one basically has to remake one’s whole body from scratch.
