Chapter 82
Chapter 82
Nina sped down the highway with Sarah.
At first, she drove slowly, but Sarah, who hadn’t had a thrill in forever, kept urging her to go faster.
Once Nina was sure Sarah wasn’t scared, she floored it.
Sarah screamed the whole way, but instead of getting annoyed, ina was actually having a blast.
She just wanted Sarah to be happy every single day.
After about half an hour, when they passed by the beach, Sarah nally told Nina to pull over.
She took Nina’s hand, and they strolled leisurely along the beach

“Nina, you’ve been back for a while now, and I haven’t really had a chance to open up to you,” Sarah said softly. “While we have the chance today, I want to really talk with you.”
Nina turned her head, a bright smile lighting up her face. “What on your mind, Grandma?”
That smile was something Sarah had never seen in the Swanson family before. For a moment, she was completely taken aback.
After a long moment, Sarah finally looked back at her. “Did you go through something tough while you were away?”
“Why do you ask?” Nina replied.
Sarah hesitated before saying, “You seem to deal with things a bit too aggressively.”
Nina was stunned for a second, then couldn’t help but laugh. “Grandma, you don’t like it when I throw hands?”
“It’s not that I don’t like it,” Sarah replied. “I get it. Sometimes, when life treats you unfairly, throwing a punch is the fastest way to settle things.
“But maybe we could try a different approach sometimes, don’t you think?”
“Maybe try being a little softer? Nina, I’m getting old. I can’t always be there to shield you,” she added.
Nina frowned. “Grandma?”
Sarah gently patted Nina’s hand. “Sure, fighting can protect you, but that’s only when the other guy’s not as tough as you. What if someday you mess with someone you can’t handle?
I just want to keep you safe and see you live a good life. So, Nin next time trouble comes knocking, can you try not to use
your fists?”
In truth, Sarah felt conflicted even as she spoke to Nina.
Sarah wanted to protect Nina, and she knew Nina was trained in martial arts. Nina could take care of herself.
But at the same time, Sarah worried that if Nina ever faced someone truly formidable, her skills alone wouldn’t be enough.
The Swanson family might be loaded, but their power only real matters in Riverdale.
‘What happens if Nina leaves Riverdale?’ Sarah wondered.
Plus, with the way things were between Nina and Ryan, it was pretty much guaranteed they would get back together sooner

or later.
Sooner or later, Nina would be marrying into the Foster family.

Even though Ryan was the one calling the shots in the Foster family, there were a lot of hidden depths and secrets in that family; nothing was ever as simple as it seemed.
Once Nina married into the Foster family, she’d be the young mistress. Everything she did, every word she said, would be a reflection of the Foster family’s reputation.
Sarah worried that if Nina ever made a fool of herself, people would start talking trash about her again, just like they did
now.
And with Nina’s temper, she’d definitely throw hands.
But fighting wasn’t a long-term solution.
Maybe Sarah was just getting old and couldn’t think of anything better. The only thing she could do was remind Nina to try not to rub people the wrong way.
And Nina should probably start learning all that high-society etiquette, so she could really secure her place in the Foster family one day.
Nina didn’t say anything. She just lowered her gaze to Sarah.
Last time, she’d only noticed a few gray hairs on Sarah’s head. Now, her hair was mostly white.
‘Grandma really is getting old now,’ Nina wondered.
Sarah just wanted to protect Nina in her own way, to make sure the rest of her life would be smooth and safe.
Nina took a deep breath and gave a gentle smile. “Okay, Grandma, I’ll listen to you.”
Sarah smiled too, holding Nina’s hand as they walked on. “I’ll do everything I can to help you find your footing in the Swanson family.
