Chapter 88
The place was usually quiet at this hour. The Gemstone Exchange only got busy at night.

However, a fresh batch of rough gems had arrived, and people in this industry rushed over the moment they heard.
As a result, many people ended up witnessing Nina and Julian’s howdown.
A crowd had gathered, itching for some drama.
Julian handed the rough gem he’d chosen to the cutter, Franco.
Franco started working on it just as Julian instructed. The moment the gem split open, a wave of gasps rippled through the crowd.
“Wow, it’s emerald.”
“Mr. Mercer nailed it. He just gets emeralds from whatever he grabs. I’ve been here for two hours, picked out three gems, and not a single one had any emerald in it.”
“Mr. Mercer is a regular here. He’s spent millions of dollars. If he couldn’t tell good rough from bad, all that money would have been for nothing.”
Hearing the crowd’s chatter, Julian lifted his chin proudly. He thought, ‘Millions of dollars, huh? Please, I’ve blown way more than that. Every bit of experience I have, I paid for with cash.
‘Nina grew up in a nightclub. She probably only ever heard about gem gambling from the clients who paid for her company. She likely didn’t even know the basic grades of emeralds, yet she had the audacity to challenge me.
‘She’s actually delusional enough to think she can beat me. Is she crazy? Just wait. I would make sure she was thoroughly humiliated.’
Julian flashed Nina a smug smile.
Just then, Franco finished slicing through the gem.
Someone in the crowd suddenly shouted, “Holy crap, that’s silky emerald. It’s been ages since anything like this showed up in the market.”
“For real? That’s actually silky emerald. That’s one of the rarest types out there. I remember someone was trying to collect silky emeralds a while back, but they couldn’t get their hands on any for ages.”
“Does anyone know what silky emerald is?”
Silky emerald grows in caves. It’s got a silky texture and super fie crystals-completely flawless. Honestly, the price isn’t that crazy by itself, maybe 2.5 million at most, but it’s insanely rare.”
“Yep, that’s why the price shot up from 2.5 million to 5 million. Nr. Mercer’s stone has a great yield of emerald-if it gets made into jewelry, it could easily be worth 10 million.”
Everyone was floored by the silky emerald. They couldn’t help but gush over Julian, saying, “Only Mr. Mercer could just grab any gem and somehow end up with a silky emerald. He’s really cky.”
Elaine didn’t know much about emeralds. All the pieces she had home were gifts, and the only time she learned anything was when Nina would give her a quick rundown on what type of emerald a piece was and how much it was worth.
She’d honestly never even heard of a silky emerald before.

Elaine leaned close to Nina and whispered, “Nina, is this stone really that good?”

Nina gave the stone a quick once-over, catching the way the green shimmered with a soft glow. She glanced away, her tone casual. “It’s definitely a rare kind-something collectors would k for.”
She hadn’t set foot in the Gemstone Exchange for ages, so she had no clue the price of silky emerald had shot up to 5 million. That was why she’d guessed Julian’s stone would top out at 3 million.
She really hadn’t expected the market to shift so fast; she’d seriously underestimated things.
Still, even though silky emerald was rare and sought after, its value lay almost entirely in its collectability. Almost nobody used silky emeralds for jewelry.
Those folks saying it’d be worth 10 million if made into jewelry clearly didn’t understand the real market for this stuff.
