Lydia could tell from Elaine’s tone that she was backing Nina up. She knew that if she dared to say another word about Nina, Elaine wouldn’t hesitate to teach her a lesson.

Elaine squinted, crouched down, and gave Lydia’s face a few warning taps. “If you wanna play games, go ahead, but if I hear you say one more bad word about Nina, I’ll kill you, okay?”

Lydia was shaking all over, totally terrified of Elaine.

Julian frowned. “Lanelle, what are you doing? Nina was the one who agreed to the bet. Are you trying to bail her out and end it now?”

Elaine glanced up at him, her eyes unreadable.

Julian cut her off before she could even respond, sneering. “If Nima is chickening out, that’s fine. After all, no one would dare to argue with you, Lanelle.”

Elaine lifted her gaze, shooting Julian a look full of contempt. “Don’t feel too good about yourself. Crushing you would be a piece of cake for me. Why do you think I’ve let you and your people provoke Nina?”

Julian’s face darkened. If anyone else had said that, he’d think they were crazy, but these words came from Elaine. Taking down the Mercer family would indeed be easy for her.

Lanelle’s reputation was the real deal.

Elaine let go of Lydia with a blank face, then coolly settled herself right back across from Nina, like nothing had happened. “Nobody is ending the bet. If anyone dares call it off, I’ll let him know the consequences.”

Seeing that Elaine wasn’t about to shut down the bet, Julian felt relieved, but still, his expression was pretty grim.

He wanted the bet to keep going, but with Elaine right there, even if Nina lost, he wouldn’t dare force her to go through with it.

Julian paused for a moment, then said, “Lanelle, you want the be to keep going, right? Fine, but if Nina loses, you can’t step in. She has to go through with it.”

Elaine let out a mocking laugh. “Don’t try to act tough.”

Julian’s face darkened, and he was about to say something, but Elaine cut him off. “Relax. If you guys can actually beat Nina, I won’t interfere.”

Hearing Elaine say that, Julian finally let out a sigh of relief. The he called for Franco to open up the second gem.

Lydia, still reeling from Elaine’s smackdown, didn’t dare utter angle word. She just huddled close to Julian, too scared to even breathe, waiting to see how things would play out.

Franco got to work, slicing open the second rough gem just like lian asked.
