Nina smiled. After a moment, she strode slowly toward Julian. “Ie got a rule. If someone tries to back out on me, I make them pay double.”

Julian felt the power radiating off Nina. He just couldn’t wrap his head around how a girl barely nineteen could have such an overwhelming presence.

Her eyes were the worst part-one glance from her was enough to make anyone feel genuinely afraid.

Julian kept backing away, his voice trembling. “What are you doing? I’m warning you. I’m the Mercer family’s heir. If you cross me, my dad will come after the Swanson family.”

He tried to back up further, but the crowd was so thick that he bumped into someone behind him. There was nowhere left to go.

Seeing Nina coming closer, Julian shouted, “Nina, you’d better think twice. Martin was right. The Swanson family can’t afford to mess with the Mercer family. Even if you’ve got Lanelle backing you up, it won’t change anything.”

Nina turned and saw Alex striding over with a few bodyguards.

Nina raised an eyebrow.

Alex walked right up to Nina, shot Julian a look of pure contempt, then grinned at her. “Ms. Swanson, no need to get your hands dirty with this. I’m bored anyway. Why not let me handle it for you?”

Alex had shown up right when Julian cracked open that silky emerald. He saw Nina in the crowd and was about to go say hi, but then he heard Lydia, totally clueless, trash-talking Nina.

Before he could even step in to defend Nina, Elaine had already smacked Lydia down.

Once the betting got going again, he caught up on what had happened. He sneered and thought, ‘Do they even know who Nina is?

‘She’s the boss of Midnight Club, the one Ryan loves. Even our boss wants her. How dare Julian have the guts to mess with her?’

Alex and Julian had never gotten along, so after hearing what happened, he was just waiting to see Julian get humiliated. And now that Nina needed him, he had to step up and make this more interesting.
