Chapter 609 Anything Is Possible

Throughout the entire time, the detector never made a sound.

Cyrus never showed the slightest suspicion and calmly continued walking.

After that, Desmond watched Cyrus and the others pass by a group of Swarmborn digging irrigation ditches. They stood in a neat line with their heads lowered as they worked, their six legs moving steadily through the mud.

Cyrus stood beside the ditch and watched them for a while. He even complimented them, saying the ditch had been dug perfectly straight.

The Swarmborn all looked up at him at the same time. The one at the front grinned.

The smile looked a little awkward, but it was undeniably a smile.

Then they lowered their heads and continued digging.

Desmond felt like he needed a moment to calm himself down.

He turned and headed toward the office, walking noticeably faster than usual.

When he pushed the door open, Elizabeth was sitting behind her desk reading through a document. A cup of hot coffee sat beside her, and she looked completely relaxed.

She looked up at Desmond. What is it? You’re frowning pretty hard. Did the people from the Fifth Military cause trouble?

Boss,Desmond said, his voice filled with astonishment that he had been holding back for a long time. They walked past Aebi at least three times, passed Ritto twice, and even stood by the ditch watching those Swarmborn dig for a full five minutes. They were carrying military- grade detectors with over ninetynine percent identification accuracy, but they still didn’t detect a thing!

Elizabeth set the document down and looked at him with a teasing smile. And then?

And then?Desmond blinked. Boss, those were military detectors! Back when I was in the military, we used them to catch countless Swarmborn. They never missed. They could even identify highranking Swarmborn disguised as humans. But now those people walked right through a crowd of Swarmborn, and the detectors didn’t make a single sound. That’s completely impossible!

Elizabeth picked up her coffee and took a sip before speaking unhurriedly. It may seem impossible to you, but on this farm, it’s perfectly normal.”

She set the cup back down. Desmond, have you ever thought about why those detectors always worked so well in the past? It was because the Swarmborn carried pheromones, unique bioelectric fields, and energy signatures that belonged only to the Swarmborn. Those traits were their biological identification.

Desmond nodded. Right. That’s exactly what the detectors identify.”

What if,Elizabeth said as she looked at him, her eyes shining, those traits disappeared?

Desmond froze. Disappeared?

Elizabeth stood up and walked over to the window, looking out at the newly reclaimed fields.

The Swarmborn were lined up in rows with their heads lowered as they worked. From behind, they looked no different from ordinary human laborers.

Ever since those Swarmborn arrived, everything they’ve eaten and drunk has come from the farm’s own fruits, vegetables, and feed. Those foods contain a special kind of energy that gradually changes their bodies. It slowly strips away the characteristics of the Swarmborn, causing their pheromones and energy signatures to fade until they eventually overlap with human biological traits.

She turned back to face Desmond. Simply put, they’re still bugs, but they’re no longer Swarmborn. As long as they take human form, the detectors only see them as unusually sturdy humans.

Desmond opened his mouth, then closed it again.

He spent quite a while trying to process what he had just heard before finally speaking with difficulty. Sothose military detectors don’t work on them anymore?

Elizabeth nodded. They don’t.

She paused before adding one more sentence. And it’s not just the detectors. Even if you brought in the military’s top experts and had them perform the most advanced fullbody examination available, they still wouldn’t find a single trace of the Swarmborn.

Desmond remained silent for a long time.

He looked out at the sunlight and the gray figures working diligently in the fields, feeling an emotion he couldn’t quite describe.
