Zara even leaned in and took another deep sniff before letting out a long, satisfied sigh. “Mmm! I know this smell! These are Tycoon Farm strawberries! One of my classmates gave me one before, and it smelled exactly like this!”
Ivy was the first to speak. There was a hint of restrained tension in her voice. “Zara, your classmate… gave you something from Tycoon Farm?”
Zara nodded. “Yeah. Lots of kids in my class have tried their fruit. Faye lives close to Mercury Plaza, and her mom goes there early in the morning all the time to wait in line. Sometimes s brings a few strawberries to school and shares them with us.”
Sophie set down the slice of watermelon in her hand, wiped her hands, and softened her to “Are all of Tycoon Farm’s fruits this good?”
“Yeah!” Zara nodded enthusiastically, completely unaware of the subtle expressions on the adults‘ faces.
“Faye said their strawberries are amazing. She said they make your mind feel clearer after you eat them. Her mom used to get headaches all the time, but after eating the strawberries for tw months, her headaches got a lot better. Now her mom goes to stand in line every single week, no matter what the weather’s like.” The more she talked, the more excited she became. “Lots o kids in my class have eaten them! They all say they’re delicious! I’m the only one who hadn’t…‘
As she reached the end, her voice grew quieter, carrying a faint trace of disappointment.
Standing nearby, Cyrus looked at Zara’s hopeful expression, so careful and full of longing, and his heart ached.
He walked over, crouched beside her, and gently ruffled her hair.
“Zara, you’re right. These strawberries really are from Tycoon Farm. And not just the strawberries. The watermelon, the apples, and these too.”
He took several boxes of vegetables and a number of Cluckoo Eggs out of his storage button. “These vegetables and Cluckoo Eggs came from Tycoon Farm too. They taste just as good. We’ll cook them later and give them a try, okay?”
Zara’s eyes instantly lit up. Her excited voice rose several pitches. “Really, Dad?”
When Cyrus nodded, she bounced excitedly where she stood before throwing herself into his arms. “Dad, you’re the best! I thought we weren’t allowed to buy anything from their farm!”

Six–year–old Maxwell didn’t fully understand what Zara had been talking about, but seein how happy she was, he ran over too and wrapped himself around Cyrus’s leg.
“Dad bought yummy food! Dad’s the best!”
The children’s laughter echoed through the living room. Sophie, however, couldn’t bring herself to smile.
She walked over to Cyrus and lowered her voice, her tone filled with concern.

Sophie was quiet for a moment before answering honestly. “They really are delicious.”
Ivy nodded as well. “They are. They’re better than any strawberries I’ve ever eaten.”
Cyrus smiled. “Then that’s enough for me. We’ll just eat them at home. We won’t show them off or attract any attention. Once we finish this batch, I’ll figure out another way to buy more from the farm.”
He paused. “I won’t go through any military channels. I’ll go on my own, quietly.”
Sophie was about to say something when Ivy suddenly slapped her thigh and stood up excitedly.
