Chapter 183 The Pawn
Weston studied Damian for a long moment, noting the obsessive, almost feverish devotion in his eyes for Sophia–it was that very fixation that had kept him clinging to life.
Yet Damian had once hurt Sophia cruelly for Isabelle’s sake, acts so brutal that Weston himself had recoiled at the thought.
As his legal wife, Sophia had endured both physical and emotional torment, even narrowly escaping death in a fire.
No ordinary person could brush off such unforgivable cruelty, unless she was someone with a tendency toward self–harm.
Sophia, having returned from the brink of despair, was no longer a meek woman easy to manipulate.
Worse still, she had Julian by her side–a man who appeared gentlemanly on the surface but wielded ruthless power behind closed doors. Damian was in for a world of trouble.
Regardless, Weston would stand by his friend.
Loyalty to their friendship and to the decade–long tangled love between Damian and Sophia left him no other choice.
He would keep watch over Stella, a soft spot for Sophia and a 1/5 pawn that would prove crucial when the time came,

planted by Mr. Julian Hall to get close to you?”
“Exactly,” Damian said, a flicker of malice crossing his pale features as he revealed Olivia’s full background.
At twenty–seven, Olivia was a native of Washington, born into extreme poverty. Orphaned at a young age, she had a younger brother to care for.
At seventeen, she was abducted by human traffickers and sold to a red–light district in Northern Europe. She’d fought back ferociously, blinding one of her captors before making her
escape.
Stranded without a passport and fearing brutal retaliation from the traffickers, she drifted between homeless shelters and emergency housing across the region.
Her luck changed when she crossed paths with Julian at a shelter, where he’d come to donate supplies.
Drawn solely by her facial features and demeanor, which bore an uncanny likeness to Sophia, Julian had taken her under his wing.
He put her through three years of rigorous training, honing her skills in reading people, business etiquette, emotional manipulation, basic self–defense combat, and covert intelligence gathering.

before striking.
For a decade, she’d served as one of Julian’s most trusted lieutenants, eliminating countless business rivals on his behalf.
Her mission infiltrating Damian’s circle was singular: seduce Damian into falling for her, until Sophia gave up on him entirely.
“Olivia works for Mr. Julian Hall?”
Lucas felt a chill run down his spine as he absorbed the intel Damian had uncovered at great cost from Northern Europe, the full weight of the revelation sinking in.
Weston had long suspected Olivia was hiding something, but he never imagined she was in Julian’s direct employ.
His brow furrowed with anxiety as he turned to Damian. “It’s clear Mr. Julian Hall has had his sights set on Sophia for a long time. With you hospitalized, are you not worried about what might unfold between Sophia and him?”
“Nothing’s going to happen. I already warned Sophia. She can’t afford the consequences. I told her I’m not afraid to burn everything down if it comes to that. Between Stellar’s dirty secrets and my grandmother’s health alone–she wouldn’t dare risk it.”
