Her Divorce, His Downfall (Sophia and Damian) novel Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Back when she’d tried to get Stella into Veridian Group, Damian shut it down cold. He said Stella wasn’t qualified, had no relevant experience.

Now? He was rolling out the red carpet for Isabelle-who had zero skills and had never worked a day in her life.

Sophia stared at his handsome, indifferent profile. He didn’t even glance her way.

Like he’d just agreed to something trivial. No big deal.

It hit her all over again: Isabelle was Damian’s one exception to everything. The only person who made him throw out all his rules.

So this is what true love looks like.

A wave of bitter irony washed over her, draining what little strength she had left to maintain her composure.

Isabelle jumped up excitedly, beaming with joy. “Oh my god, Damian! You’re letting me work at Veridian Group? You’re amazing!”

Michael raised his wine glass toward Damian. “Damian, this one’s for you. I’m trusting you with Isabelle. She doesn’t know anything yet-please look after her.”

Damian lifted his glass in return. “Of course, Dad.”

He tipped his head back, throat working as he drained it.

“Excellent!” Michael beamed, pleased Damian knew how to play along. He emptied his own glass.

Then he poured another and turned to Connor.

“Connor, we need to set a wedding date for you and Isabelle soon. Pick a day to bring your parents over. Our families should sit down and discuss the details

properly.”

“Sounds good. I’ll talk to my parents about dates.”

Connor raised his glass politely and knocked it back in

one go.

Sophia’s fingers tightened imperceptibly. Her heart sank.

Whatever. It was over anyway.

Sophia’s emotions churned. She silently lifted her wine glass and took a small sip.

Two sets of eyes landed on her at the same time. She didn’t notice either.

“Looks like the Andersons have a wedding coming up.” Michael had a few too many and was feeling cheerful. “Connor, we’ve spoiled Isabelle since she was little. After you two get married, you’ll need to be patient with her.”

“Don’t worry, Uncle. I’ll take good care of her.” Connor nodded, his smile warm and gentle.

Every word twisted the knife deeper. Sophia had just gotten out of the hospital after being injured, and not one person in the Anderson family had asked how she was.

Her husband. Her childhood friend. Her father. All of them circling around Isabelle like moths to a flame.

. They laughed, discussing wedding dates and future plans,

every ounce of attention piled onto Isabelle.

Just as she opened her mouth to say she was heading home, Isabelle suddenly set down her fork and stood with

a smile.

“I’m full. You all take your time. I’m going to take a walk in the garden.”

Michael and Rhea nodded, waving her off.

The instant Isabelle left, Damian immediately set down his glass, lips curving slightly.

“I’m full too. Think I’ll get some air.”

With that, he strode after her, those long legs carrying him out of the dining hall right behind Isabelle.

Watching their figures disappear, Sophia slowly stood, mumbling something about the restroom.

But her feet carried her to the window overlooking the garden instead. She hid behind the heavy curtains, eyes fixed on them below.

In the garden, the setting sun cast a golden glow.

Her smile was radiant-no trace of the awkwardness from

dinner.

Damian, the man known across New York City for his ruthless business tactics, stood ramrod straight beside her.

“Damian, look how cute Buck is! Come walk him.”
