Chapter 33
She remembered all those times after dinner when she’d
tried to pull him out for walks—he’d always brushed her off with work excuses.
When she was curled up in bed with period cramps, all she ever got was his dismissive “drink more water.”
She’d never seen him like this. Patient. Gentle. Almost…
humble.
Turned out he wasn’t cold by nature. He knew how to
care.
He’d just given all his exceptions, all his rule-breaking, all his patience and devotion to Isabelle. Every last bit of it.
And Sophia? The legal Mrs. Hall? She was like a thief
now.
She hid behind the window, watching her husband cradle another woman like she was made of glass.

them.
“You just got out of the hospital. Don’t catch a chill.”
Suddenly, a warm jacket settled over her shoulders.
Connor had appeared behind her without her noticing, his voice soft with concern.
“Stay positive. You’ll heal faster. And if you need a shoulder… I’m here.”
The unexpected warmth startled her. She spun around instinctively, but moved too quickly. Her foot slipped, and she fell backward.
Connor immediately caught her waist, pulling her against him and steadying her.
Sophia’s cheek pressed against his warm chest. That familiar woody scent filled her lungs. Her heart stuttered.
“Thanks.” She looked up and found his gentle smile-the . same one from all those years ago.
Connor gazed down at her. She got lost in it for a

“What the hell are you doing?”
Damian stood at the hallway entrance, his face frozen like frost. His cold gaze locked onto Connor’s hand around Sophia’s waist with murderous intensity.
Sophia jumped at his sudden appearance. She shoved Connor away and bolted past Damian without a word.
Connor watched Sophia’s retreating figure disappear before turning to face Damian. His lips curved into a mocking smile.
“Whatever you’re doing,” he said, enunciating each word, “that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
His words were like a lit match to a powder keg.
Damian lunged forward, his fist cutting through the air toward Connor’s face.
Connor reacted swiftly, catching the punch and shoving it aside with a dismissive laugh.
“Damian, this is the Anderson family home. Unless you want to cause a scene and embarrass Youran in front of 51 the elders, I’m happy to go all the way.”

Damian’s cold eyes bore into him. “I’m warning you-stay away from my wife, or I won’t let this slide.”
“Ha.” Connor showed no fear, coldly retorting, “You look after your sister-in-law, I look after my future. sister-in-law. What’s the difference?”
“Connor, you don’t actually think you still have a chance, do you?”
Something clicked in Damian’s mind. An evil smirk curved his lips.
“You betrayed her back then. She ran all the way to Europe to get away from you. I traded my life to make her marry me. You’ll never measure up to that.”
Bullseye. The words hit Connor’s rawest nerve.
His chest tightened. He clenched his fists, voice ice-cold.
“If you hadn’t swooped in and stolen her, I would’ve explained everything. Sophia might never have married – you.”

Connor stared at Damian’s retreating figure, forcing his fist back down.
That birthday party three years ago was a wound that never healed. Sophia had left so final-he never even got the chance to speak.
By the time she came back, the news hit: she’d married Damian.
That’s when it sank in. Some things, once lost, were gone forever.
