Chapter 45
Connor’s mind flashed to the confinement room—the bone-chilling cold, the blood stains, that poor dead cat. He nearly growled his response:
“She’s your sister! How could you throw her to the wolves like this? Do you have any idea what this kind of online attack does to a person? It ruins lives!”
“Connor,” Isabelle’s voice turned ice-cold as she frowned.
“You’re awfully concerned about my sister. Still carrying a torch for her, are you? Don’t forget-you promised to take responsibility and marry me.”
Connor closed his eyes, drew a deep breath, and barely managed to suppress the fury coursing through him.
“I haven’t forgotten. I’ll keep my promise and marry you. But right now, I’m ordering you-stop this immediately!”
“It’s out of my hands,” Isabelle replied airily. “I’m not the one orchestrating this. Damian is. If you want to stop it, * go find him.”
Without waiting for Connor’s response, she hur P-08:58

Him again. The man who’d stolen Sophia from him all those years ago, only to never cherish her.
Hurting her over and over again with his shameless, despicable behavior.
Connor watched the online storm intensify, a dull ache
threatening to tear through his chest.
He couldn’t wait any longer. He wouldn’t let Damian use these disgusting tactics to destroy Sophia-not after he’d just saved her life.
He immediately contacted his assistant, urgency bleeding into his voice:
“Get me the best PR. Whatever it costs-pull down those trending topics and delete every piece of negative content.
Now.”
Minutes later, his assistant’s return call sent his heart plummeting.

other clients. Their message is crystal clear: tonight’s trending topics are staying up no matter what.”
“He’s crazy!” Connor slammed his fist onto his desk, knuckles screaming with pain.
Was Damian really determined to destroy Sophia completely?
Remembering how she’d finally opened up to him just days ago, that genuine trust in her eyes, he could no longer maintain his composure.
After a moment of contemplation, he sighed heavily and clicked on his phone to find a contact he rarely used. His fingers typed with force:
[Damian, we need to meet. Now. Sending you the address.]
Thirty minutes later, in the premium private room of an upscale café.
.The two men faced each other.

Damian leisurely removed his coat, handed it to the server, and settled into the window-side sofa before looking up with cold indifference. “Give me one good
reason.”
“She’s your wife!” Connor’s eyes flashed with barely contained fury.
“Damian, how can you use such despicable methods to hurt her? Online harassment kills people-don’t you know that?”
“How I treat my wife is my business.” Damian lifted his coffee, taking a slow sip. The bitter liquid slid down his throat as his voice turned colder than the drink. “Connor, watch your place. What are you to my wife? Old friend? Classmate? Or just another guy who never moved on?”
The last words carried obvious venom.
Connor’s jaw tightened as he stepped forward, locking eyes with him. His voice came out strained:
“She’s been hurt-physically and emotionally. She’s just starting to heal, fragile beyond measure. This storm you’ve unleashed… didn’t you consider that she can’t

Damian’s brow flickered almost imperceptibly.
He remembered that before the confinement, she’d only had a small cut from the porcelain shard on her face. It had bled, but nothing serious.
Was Connor exaggerating, or was there something he didn’t know?
The thought flashed through his mind before being crushed by defensive instinct.
“So it was you.” Damian slammed down his coffee cup and closed the distance between them, grabbing Connor’s collar. His ice-cold eyes bored into him.
“You’re the one who hid her! Connor, why won’t you just give up after all these years? You think playing the hero will bring her back to you? Don’t forget-she’s my wife
now!”
Connor let him grip his collar, a bitter, pained smile twisting his lips.
“Damian, if I hadn’t arrived when I did, you’d be looking at her corpse right now.”
