The familiar, delicate scent from her skin seemed to possess some kind of magic, gradually soothing away all the unease in
his heart.
Damian closed his eyes, holding the woman in his arms tighter, and drifted into sleep alongside her.
When Sophia woke the next morning, unsurprisingly, Damian was gone again.
The pillow beside her was cold and empty, as if their
near-explosive argument the night before had been nothing but an illusion.
Sophia sat up, gazing at the morning light streaming through the window, her lips curving into a cold smile.
She was long past being surprised. Wasn’t this exactly how he always was?
After breakfast, Dorothy noticed her poor mood and thoughtfully suggested, “The weather’s lovely today, Miss. Would you like to take a walk in the garden? Staying cooped up in your room all the time isn’t good for your recovery.”
Sophia could see Dorothy’s genuine concern and nodded. 1/5

they knew something was wrong.
Everyone scattered throughout the space turned to stare at her
at once.
Their whispered comments weren’t loud, but Sophia heard them clearly:
“Look, that’s her… the awful Anderson daughter who beats up her sister.”
“She looks so sweet and innocent, but she’s actually cruel.”
“Right? I heard she put her own sister in the hospital, and now she’s here faking sick to dodge the fallout. Can you believe we have to share a hospital with someone like that?”
“Take a picture, take a picture. Let everyone see what this witch really looks like…”
Someone even raised their phone, pointing the camera at her pale face.
Sophia instinctively raised her hand to shield her eyes. The harsh sunlight mixed with the invasive camera lens made her head spin with dizziness.

She had no idea what was happening online.
A wave of unease crashed over her.
Sophia steadied her breathing and walked toward the middle-aged woman who’d been speaking the loudest, asking politely, “Excuse me, do you have some kind of misunderstanding about me? Why are you saying these things?”

Dorothy’s hands shook with anger as she stepped in front of Sophia. “How dare you spread these lies? She would never do something like that! Keep this up and I’ll sue you for defamation!”
“Oh really? Threatening to sue now? I didn’t make this up—it’s all over the internet. Go ahead and sue! I’m not scared of you!”
Dorothy was so angry she wanted to tear that woman’s vile mouth apart.
“Dorothy, don’t.” Sophia quickly grabbed her arm, fixing her gaze on the woman. “You said the whole internet is sang this 02

in Sophia’s face. “See for yourself!”
“It’s been the trending topic all night: ‘Heiress Brutally Attacks. Sister-Sweet in Public, Violent Behind Closed Doors.’ There are photos, videos, and your sister even went live last night to apologize on your behalf. Still going to deny it?”
Sophia’s eyes landed on the top hashtag.
Below it was a photo of Isabelle, face covered in tears.
And several damning photos of her supposed injuries.
As she scrolled down, another photo suddenly filled the screen, making her breath catch.
It was from early autumn two years ago, at the entrance to the Anderson family home.
She was wearing a pale yellow dress, standing on the steps, turning to look back.
Her gaze was directed toward Damian, who had just stepped out of his car.
The sunlight had been beautiful that day, the breeze carrying the scent of flowers as she waited for her husband to walk toward her, unable to hide the joy in her eyes.
