Chapter 98
Sophia rested her chin on his shoulder, the weight of him pressing down and making it hard to breathe.
She lifted her hand and gently patted his back, her voice soft and hesitant.
“Julian…”
But he didn’t respond. He was lost in his own world, completely
tuned out.
It wasn’t until a small sob escaped her throat that he finally snapped back.
“You’re hurting me,” she whispered.
“Where?”
Julian immediately loosened his hold, guilt flashing across his
face.
“I’m sorry… I just got carried away. I was so happy-I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
His awkward smile, the faint pink creeping across his ears, made Sophia pause.

She had agreed to pretend to be his fiancée, yet he looked happier than she’d expected.
Shouldn’t she be the one feeling all the happiness?
After all, she had him-a powerful, capable man-watching her back, letting her do whatever she wanted without a single worry.
But Julian… he seemed even happier than she was.
And somehow, seeing him like this-the way he smiled without holding back-made her chest feel lighter. A warm, sweet happiness spread through her that she hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Never mind.”
Sophia let out a soft laugh, her fingers brushing against his arm.
“Partners, then?”
Julian’s heart skipped a beat. His chest pounded so hard it felt like it might burst.
Heat rushed through him, excitement clawing at every nerve.
Forget the engagement contract-fake or real-it didn’t matter
anymore.
All he wanted was her by his side.

This time, he had seized the moment. The person he loved was finally back where she belonged-right by his side.
Taking a deep breath, Julian tried to calm himself. He held her hand firmly, a low, warm chuckle escaping his throat.
“Yeah. In a few days, I’ll introduce you to your new family.”
Sophia’s eyes lit up with curiosity.
“New family? Who? Do I need to prepare anything?”
Julian kept holding her hand, a teasing glint in his eyes.
“You’ll see soon. Nothing to worry about-I’ve got it all covered.”
“Come on, tell me!” she pressed, unable to hide her curiosity.
He flicked her forehead lightly, smiling.
“Secret!”
Sophia pouted. “You’re impossible.”
“Alright, be good. Eat your meal-you’ll need all your energy for what’s coming,” he said, playful yet gentle.

Meanwhile, back in New York.
Damian had turned the entire city upside down searching for Sophia.
He’d thrown every resource he had into it-the Hall family, the Anderson family, the Heade family, even the Hunt family.
He had people combing through every corner, tearing the city apart piece by piece. And still… nothing.
No tickets. No boarding records. No trace of her crossing any
borders.
She had simply vanished.
The last shred of hope he clung to was slowly crushed by reality.
Everyone told him she had died in the fire-burned to ashes.
But Damian refused to believe it. He couldn’t accept that she was really gone.
Hope… shattered.
The chaos he’d stirred had already alerted the Hall family.
There was no longer any way to hide the news of Sophia’s

supposed death from the elders.
But what they were told was a carefully crafted version of
events.
Everything involving Isabelle had been erased.
All they heard was that Blake, a business rival, had kidnapped Sophia over a long-standing grudge.
During a confrontation with Damian, he lost control and started
the fire.
In the end, both Blake and Sophia were said to have died in the
blaze.
The news hit Gloria like a bolt of lightning. Her blood pressure spiked, and she fainted on the spot-rushed to the hospital that very night.
Catherine and Bella sobbed uncontrollably, while even the usually stern Daniel had red-rimmed eyes.
Michael was overwhelmed with grief, choked by sorrow.
Rhea and Isabelle, however, were quietly pleased. They had already mapped out their plan to claim Sophia’s inheritance.
Shares, property, cars… every detail had been rehearsed a 14:38

thousand times in their minds. Once the paperwork was signed, it would all be theirs-clean and legal.
Of course, they still put on a convincing display of grief, crying just enough to make Michael feel somewhat comforted.
As for the rest of the family, the only one truly devastated was Sophia’s little cousin, Chloe, who fainted from the shock.
Wesley and Heather put on a show of mourning, but behind the scenes, they were secretly celebrating-after all, their son Leo had smoothly stepped into the CEO position at Zenith Corporation.
Leo played his part just as well, wearing a somber expression for all to see. But inside, he was thrilled.
At last, his position at Zenith was secure.
Damian, on the other hand, couldn’t care less about any of them. He didn’t even have the patience to deal with their theatrics.
