Celia looked utterly convinced of her own righteousness, completely unaware that everything she had was stolen from Vivian.
After Celia filled nearly half a bowl with her blood, Sylvia couldn’t bear to let her continue and quickly bandaged the wound.
“Grandmother, Father, and Simon are all at Hearthstone Court. I’ll take the blood to them,” Celia said. She did not even glance at the blood, just clutching the porcelain bottle tightly.
Celia pushed the door open. A maid carefully supported her as they made their way over.
Before Celia even entered Flora’s room, she could hear the arguing inside.
“Last time, Celia bled for the medicine. Now that Flora is sick again. You expect me, as her father, to force my own daughter to harm herself again?” Quentin’s voice was thick with frustration.
Quentin adored Celia and hated seeing her hurt, but Flora’s life was hanging in the balance.
“Quentin, donating a little blood won’t kill her. But if Flora doesn’t get that medicine in time, she could die. She’s your wife,” Beatrice snapped.
She rarely scolded her children, but this was life or death. There was no room for hesitation. “If you won’t say it, I’ll be the bad guy,” she added, not hiding her irritation.
“Mother, that’s not what I meant,” Quentin said hurriedly, worried she’d misunderstand.
“Flora got
sick so suddenly. If Matthew hadn’t returned to Pinecrest Academy just a day earlier, he would have given blood for the medicine. He’s the eldest son, after all. But things just didn’t work out that way,” Quentin said, his frustration clear.
“Work out or not, we’re out of options right now,” Beatrice replied, her expression stern.
Gathering her skirt, Celia stepped into the room. At the sound, both Beatrice and Quentin turned.
Seeing Celia’s unnaturally pale face, Quentin understood instantly. She’d already drawn her blood for Flora and brought it herself so he wouldn’t have to ask. She was ever the dutiful daughter, just as always.
Celia’s thoughtfulness warmed Quentin’s heart. His fingers trembled slightly as he took the porcelain bottle. “Is this…”
Celia gave a gentle nod. “It’s the cure for Mother.”
Quentin immediately called for the servants, instructing them to prepare the medicine exactly as the doctor had directed, using Celia’s blood.
A maid holding the porcelain bottle handled it with extreme care, terrified of dropping the precious blood. No one wanted to face Quentin’s anger if something went wrong.

Chapter 25
Another maid helped Celia sit on a low stool beside the bed.

Seeing Flora lying there unconscious, Celia pressed a hand to her mouth, tears finally breaking free.
“Mother, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have argued with you. Vivian is Simon’s savior, so it’s only right that she’s recognized as your daughter.
“I was just being childish and throwing a tantrum. Please get better soon. You can punish me any way you like, just please wake up,” Celia sobbed.
Beatrice picked up her handkerchief and dabbed her own eyes. Celia might always seem calm and grown-up, but deep down, she was still just a girl. When something serious happened, it was only natural for her composure to crack.
Reaching out, Beatrice gently patted Celia’s head. “Don’t worry, child. Weakness like this isn’t a death sentence. With the cure, your mother will be back on her feet soon.”
“Really?” Celia asked, her eyes glistening with tears.
“Would I ever lie to you, dear?” Beatrice replied.
“Of course not, Grandmother,” Celia said, her voice softening into a rare, girlish tone.
Seeing Celia’s pallor, Beatrice gently urged her, “You should go back and rest. Don’t overdo it.”
Celia shook her head. “I want to stay. I want to be here for Mother.”
Seeing her determination, Beatrice didn’t push it and let her stay.
Not long after, Vivian arrived at Hearthstone Court, her own face pale. Her sleeves were slightly short, and as she moved, a strip of white bandage peeked out.
Seeing the bandage, Celia knew that her plan had gone smoothly. Lowering her eyes, she feigned concern and asked, “Vivian, you look unwell. Are you feeling sick?”
Vivian looked up, her mouth opening, but she hesitated for a long moment and said nothing.
‘Just as I thought,’ Celia mused inwardly. ‘Vivian is still unmarried, and after that ordeal with those kidnappers, even if nothing happened, her reputation is already damaged. If she has any sense, she’ll keep the truth to herself’
Now in possession of the cure, Celia was in high spirits and didn’t press Vivian further. “If you’re not feeling well, you should go lie down,” she said gently. “With Matthew away, I can handle things here. That’s what a big sister is for.”
Vivian gave a soft reply but remained where she was.
Celia didn’t insist.
Just then, Simon ran up to Vivian and whispered, “Vivian.” His recent illness had really taken a toll; he was painfully thin now, his jawline sharp.

Vivian reached out and ruffled his hair. Simon was her little brother, only seven years old. In her previous life, not only had he gone blind from delayed treatment, but he had also died protecting Celia from an assassin.
The System’s sound echoed in Vivian’s mind, “Host, Sylvia’s here.”
Vivian flashed a sneer. Everyone knew that Sylvia was practically Flora’s shadow, serving her day and night, always the picture of dutiful respect.
Sylvia was the persistent type. She’d been tirelessly attending to Flora these past few days. Now that Celia had provided the cure, all Flora needed was to take the remedy mixed with kin’s blood to recover. There was no way Sylvia would miss the finale.
In her previous life, Vivian and Sylvia had spent nineteen years as mother and daughter.
It wasn’t until Vivian was on her deathbed that she uncovered the truth of the swapped babies and finally understood why Sylvia had never loved her, showering all her affection on the noble Celia instead.
Sylvia’s loyalty was simple. The only person she truly loved besides herself was Celia.
Now that Celia was poised to cement her reputation as the ultimate model of filial piety among Aurestus’s young ladies, Sylvia wouldn’t dream of skipping such a pivotal moment.
Vivian greeted Sylvia.
Sylvia responded with a mere nod, her eyes barely grazing Vivian before returning to Celia. “Who knows how much blood this medicine costs? You must have suffered terribly, Lady Celia,” Sylvia said, her voice dripping with concern as she lightly touched Celia’s hand.
“As long as Mother recovers, I’d give my own flesh and blood, even my life,” Celia declared.
“Lady Celia, please don’t say such things,” Sylvia cut in quickly. “If Lady Flora wakes and hears you, it would break her heart.”
Vivian watched this saccharine display of mother-daughter devotion with barely concealed scorn, rolling her eyes internally.
The System shared her disgust. “No wonder Celia has that Cuckoo Fate. It takes a special kind of shamelessness to steal someone’s life so brazenly.”
“Let her gloat,” Vivian thought back. “The higher she climbs now, the harder she’ll fall later.”
Vivian absently adjusted the gauze on her wrist. There was no real injury, so of course, there was no pain. Without her blood, that bowl of medicine would be utterly useless.
Vivian’s gaze drifted to Flora, who was still unconscious on the bed, her brow furrowed. She wondered if Flora could really hang on.
Picking up on her anxiety, the System reassured her. “Don’t worry, Host. Flora’s condition is weak but not yet critical. She will recover as long as she takes the correct medicine within three days.”
Vivian pressed her lips together, mentally noting the timeline. She was determined not to let a single detail

Before long, a senior maid entered, carefully carrying a tray with the freshly brewed medicine. Sylvia took the tray from her, her eyes flickering with a complicated, inscrutable expression.
