Chapter 40
If Celia was like gentle moonlight, soothing and elegant, Vivian was a sun blazing high above.
95 voucheth.
She had inherited all the best features from Quentin and Flora. Her beauty was stunning, leaving a powerful impression wherever she went.
Sylvia couldn’t help but feel relieved. She thought, ‘Good thing Vivian got attacked by bandits, fell off the carriage, and that scar on her face when she was five.
got
‘Otherwise, just her looks alone would’ve brought Celia a world of trouble. Looks like the heavens are watching out for Celia‘
“You’ve always got your own ideas, never listen to me. Just don’t cry to me if you regret it later,” Sylvia said, acting all motherly.
Vivian didn’t respond. She looked down, ignoring Sylvia’s words.
Seeing that, Sylvia’s irritation flared up even more.
At some point, Vivian had started becoming so arrogant, showing no respect for Sylvia.
Sylvia thought, ‘Does Vivian really think that just by getting close to Flora, she’ll have a grand future ahead? What a fool’s dream.
‘Celia is Flora’s true daughter, while Vivian is just a nobody. Though Flora tossed Vivian a bit of kindness, it was like flipping a coin to a beggar. She never really cared about Vivian.
‘No matter how much Vivian plans, in the end, all her efforts will go down the drain.
Sylvia stormed off with a grim face.
Vivian headed back to her room as well.
[Celia Snyder’s Fortune Points: 76] The System chimed in.
Then it asked, “Host, are you still planning to use Wild Mustard to speed up the Silvermoon Twinbloom’s growth?”
Vivian didn’t try to hide it. She nodded.
“Since I’ve got the formula, I might as well put it to good use. It’d be a shame to just let it go to waste,” she said.
In her previous life, Celia had been seen as the blessed one because the Silvermoon Twinbloom bloomed, and the System figured Vivian was after that reputation too.
“Celia missed her chance, and her Fortune Points dropped by three. Even if you take her place as the blessed one, your Fortune Points won’t change.” The System couldn’t help but remind her.
“Don’t worry. I’ve got my own plans,” Vivian said, sipping her water. A tall figure flashed through her mind.
‘He’ll be there too, Vivian thought.
In the next few days, Vivian had all the servants in Maple Yard replaced. Judith, who had always been overlooked, suddenly became her chief maid and her most trusted confidante,
Vivian pulled up Judith’s sleeve, her gaze growing somber as she looked at the jagged scar on Judith’s wrist.
That was the wound Dylan left when he forced Judith to give blood.

Vivian knew Dylan’s real target was her. Judith had suffered in her place.
Vivian’s chest tightened with discomfort. She dipped her finger into the Violet Balm and gently smoothed it over the scar.
Judith tried to pull her hand back, whispering, “My lady, this balm is precious.”

“No matter how valuable something is, it’s only effective if it’s put to good use,” Vivian replied.
“But what about the scar on your face?” Judith murmured.
Vivian let out a sigh and explained, “My scar’s old. It’s not like your fresh wound, so the Violet Balm might not even help. Besides, now’s not the time to fix my appearances with everything going on in Aurea Manor.”

Judith wanted to protest again, but Vivian warmed the balm between her fingers and gently massaged it into Judith’s skin until it was fully absorbed.

Regret gnawed at Vivian. ‘If I’d been more careful, Judith wouldn’t have had to suffer for me,’ she thought.
But she couldn’t afford to get lost in guilt right now. There were bigger things she needed to handle.
Earlier, Vivian had stockpiled a bunch of Wild Mustard, crushed it up, and soaked the pulp in strong liquor, letting it sit for a few days.
She got a tiny amount of medicine and tucked it away in a small, nondescript white bottle.
Two days had passed, and it was finally the Festival of Fortune, the most bustling festival in all of Veronia.
Before dawn, every noble, royal, official, imperial consort, and concubine had gathered at the Sanctuary of Peace.
Outside the gates, the road was jammed with carriages and throngs of people. It was as lively as New Year’s Eve.
The Snyder family’s carriage convoy was parked nearby, slowly inching forward through the bustling crowd.
Sylvia was getting anxious, worried about missing the right time and losing the chance to meet the nobles.
For anyone
else, it wouldn’t be such a big deal, but Celia had the Phoenix Fate. Her future was bright, and she couldn’t afford. even the tiniest mistake.
Vivian sat on the cushioned bench, giving Sylvia a frosty look. She could tell Sylvia’s thoughts were already with Celia.
Sylvia pulled back the curtain and urged, “Can’t we go
any faster?”
Tough. Carriages are stuck,” the coachman replied, looking
“It’s a total gridlock up ahead. Only folks on foot can squeeze
miserable.
Sylvia’s face turned cold, and she kept quiet. But she shot Vivian a glare when no one was watching.
Lately, nothing was going right for her and Celia. Sylvia was convinced it was Vivian who had been bringing them bad luck.
She thought, “This is all my own fault for being greedy, trying to snatch every last bit of Vivian’s Fortune instead of just wiping her out from the start.
‘Now I think one less Golden Plume is still acceptable. It wouldn’t really mess up Celia’s future anyway.
‘But if I slipped up and let Vivian catch me off guard, she would bite back hard, and the consequences would be even nastier
“Mom, why do you keep staring at me?” Vivian asked with a bright smile, playing with her pearl bracelet.
“Oh, it’s nothing. I just think your gown with those wide sleeves looks absolutely stunning,” Sylvia replied.

Sylvia didn’t want Vivian to get suspicious, so she masked the calculation in her eyes and offered a casual compliment.
“Thank you, Mom,” Vivian said, her cheeks tinged with a shy blush.
In a spot where Sylvia couldn’t see, Vivian gripped the edge of her sleeve. The small white bottle containing the Wild Mustard extract was tucked right there.
The main road in front of the gate was only blocked for a little while before things finally started moving again.
The Snyder family hopped out of their carriages and headed straight for the front hall, where the blessing altar was waiting.
On the way, they bumped into all sorts of familiar faces.
There were the ladies from Grimward Manor, the Archer family ladies, the whole Fletcher family, and a bunch of other big
names.
Crowds were everywhere.
“My lady, it’s His High… I mean, Xavier,” Rayna blurted out. She used the wrong word but stopped in time.
Nobody noticed Rayna’s slip–up except for Vivian.
Vivian turned to the commotion and saw the royal heirs gathered in front of the blessing altar. Leading them was a man dressed in a black and crimson robe, which was embroidered with nine intricate patterns.
His looks were breathtaking, and it was impossible to ignore. Sure enough, it was Enoch.
As if he could feel Vivian’s stare, Enoch suddenly turned and locked eyes with Vivian.
Even with the distance between them, Vivian could sense the icy chill in his gaze.
Vivian quickly ducked her head, avoiding Enoch’s gaze.
Behind her, Nina couldn’t help but snark, “Someone plotted and went to all that trouble, but in the end, it all amounted to nothing. Oh, wait, scratch that.
“She pissed off the crown prince, so it’s not just nothing. She’s about to be in trouble. She brought it on herself, always so shameless and desperate to show off.”
Celia’s long lashes fluttered as she pretended to stop Nina. “Nina, Vivian is your sister. Don’t be so rude,” she said.
“She’s not even part of the main family line. How could she be a real sister? If Flora wasn’t soft–hearted, she would’ve been locked up at home, so she wouldn’t embarrass herself,” Nina said.
Celia spoke without lowering her voice, so the nearby ladies heard every word.
A kindly lady with a round face smiled and asked, “Young lady, what did Vivian do to get you so worked up?”
