A shadow of mystery lingered around him, an air that seemed deliberately cultivated.
Sherry watched as he changed into a different outfit. Over the past couple of days, she'd found herself completely drawn to him—and now, with that mask on, it only got worse.
"So this is what you wear when you go out picking up women?" Sherry snapped, her tone sharp with irritation. "Looking at you now, I really can't picture you having some innocent first love or a soulmate."
Lucas actually looked pleased with himself.
That only fueled Sherry's anger.
"More like the classic player who sleeps around every night, then meets 'the one' and decides to settle down!"
Any way you looked at him, he fit the description.
A real bad boy.
Cynical through and through.
"No wonder you kiss like you've had plenty of practice."
The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became.
"Queen Sherry, come on—that's not true." Lucas raised his hand as if taking an oath. "I've barely been around here enough for a kid to count the times on one hand. Seriously, hardly anyone has ever seen me like this."
But the small group behind them nearly lost it when they overheard.
Especially Gwen.
Her composure cracked—she just couldn't help it.
"Is that the woman the boss brought back? She's actually got him wrapped around her finger? Queen Sherry, I must be hearing things."
The others were so stunned they were already muttering incoherently.
"I've definitely lost my mind... completely lost it."
Clearly, that one line had set them off, and now they were talking like they'd seen a ghost. They were seriously shaken.
In their world, they could imagine those words coming out of anyone's mouth—except Lucas'.
What kind of man was Lucas, anyway?
Someone who'd basically clawed his way out of a graveyard.
In this line of work, just seeing him bring a woman around—whether he was into her or not—already felt like a miracle.
But to see their legendary boss turn into some lovesick puppy?
That image was totally shattered. Completely demolished. Gone.
Gwen's rarely-seen cracked expression went unnoticed by the rest—and thankfully so.
"Keep it down over there," someone muttered.
"Anyway, the boss is still young. He doesn't know any better when it comes to relationships. It's not surprising he'd get swept up by some married woman."
Their organization was big.
