Her Sweetest Mistake (Amelia) novel Chapter 33

Two things woke me, the bright light streaming in through the window and the heavy blanket on my body. I groaned and tried turning but then I realized the heavy thing on me wasn’t a blanket, it was Xavier.

His arm was draped over me, holding me close to him, and his breathing was soft against the back of my neck.

I shifted a little, turning to face him, and his arm tightened around me automatically, like he didn’t want to let go even in his sleep. I couldn’t help but smile as I looked at him. His face was so relaxed and peaceful.

Leaning in, I pressed a small kiss to his lips. He groaned softly, his eyes still closed, but his arm pulled me even closer.

Morning,he mumbled, his voice raspy, before kissing me back

Morning,I whispered, giggling as he nuzzled my forehead.

I rested my head against his chest for a moment, listening to the steady beat of his heart, but then I remembered school.

I have a class,I said, groaning a little.

He sighed dramatically, loosening his grip on me. Already?

Yep,I said, sitting up and stretching. Can’t miss it.

Fine,he muttered, letting go completely but not before planting a quick kiss on my shoulder.

I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom in my room, I brushed my teeth and got ready. By the time I came downstairs, Xavier was already at the dining table, dressed in a suit and looking completely put together, like he hadn’t just rolled out of bed.

There was a plate of pancakes and scrambled eggs waiting for me, and I couldn’t help but grin. You made breakfast?

Of course,he said, sipping his coffee. Gotta make sure you’re taken care of.

Thanks,I said, sitting down and digging in. The pancakes were perfect, fluffy and sweet, just how I liked them.

As I ate, he leaned back in his chair, watching me. Do you want to come to my office after class, or are you heading home?

I thought about it for a second, but the answer was easy. Your office,I said with a small smile.

He smirked. Good. I like having you there.

After breakfast, he grabbed his keys and we headed out. The car ride to school was quiet but comfortable, with Xavier occasionally glancing over at me and smiling.

When we pulled up to the front of the building, he leaned over and kissed me, his hand brushing my cheek.

Have a good day,he said, his voice low.

You too,I replied, my cheeks heating up as I got out of the car.

I didn’t get far before I bumped into Shawn.

Whoa, easy there,he said, steadying me. Then, his eyes narrowed as he looked me up and down.

What?I asked, suddenly selfconscious under his intense glare.

He crossed his arms, tilting his head. You had sex, didn’t you?

My jaw dropped. What? No! Shawn

It’s either that, or you did something,he said, cutting me off. You’re glowing or whatever. And who was that guy who dropped you off? Don’t tell me it’s Kyle again.

I groaned, grabbing his arm and dragging him toward an empty classroom. Can you stop? You’re going to announce it to the whole school.

Once we were inside, I closed the door and turned to face him. Okay, fine. I’ll tell you the truth. But you have to promise not to freak out.

He raised an eyebrow but nodded. Promise.

I took a deep breath. “It’s Xavier.

His eyes widened. Wait, your step uncle, Xavier?

I nodded, feeling my face heat up. “Yeah. I’veI’ve liked him ever since I met him at my mom’s wedding. And, well, we’ve beendoing stuff. Sexrelated stuff. And we’llsex now.

For a moment, Shawn just stared at me, and I braced myself for the judgment, the lecture, the inevitable what are you thinking?speech. But instead, he stepped forward and hugged me.

It’s okay,he said softly. You could’ve told me sooner, you know. I’m not gonna judge you.

I blinked, surprised. Really?

Really,he said, pulling back and giving me a small smile. But, uh, is he hot?

I laughed slightly. So hot.

Figured,he said with a smirk. Come on, let’s get to class.

As we walked to class, he started ranting about some girl who’d insulted his sexuality that morning, and I listened, grateful for the distraction. School went by quickly after that, and luckily, I didn’t run into Kyle.

When the final bell rang, I grabbed my stuff and headed outside. Sure enough, Xavier’s car was waiting by the curb.

I waved goodbye to Shawn, who winked at me teasingly before walking off.

You’re right on time,I said as I climbed into the passenger seat.

He just nodded, his eyes on the road as we pulled away. How was your day?

I launched into a rant about one of my teachers, barely pausing for breath as I told him every little thing that had annoyed me. He listened patiently, occasionally glancing over at me with a small smile.

When we got to his office, Amelia was at her desk, and the glare she shot me could’ve melted steel.

I leaned closer to Xavier and whispered, She likes you.

He raised an eyebrow. What?

Amelia. She likes you. Like, likes you,I said, smirking.

He just rolled his eyes. Don’t worry about her.

We walked past her, and I couldn’t help but smile to myself. Let her glare all she wants, I wasn’t going anywhere.

Xavier led me into his office and gestured to the sofa. “Make yourself comfortable,he said, grabbing his laptop.I have an online meeting, so behave.

I nodded, trying to look innocent. I always behave.

He gave me a look, like he didn’t believe me for a second, before sitting down at his desk and starting the meeting

For a while, I just played on my phone, but then I got bored. My eyes drifted to Xavier, and I couldn’t help but watch him. He looked so serious, his brow furrowed as he focused on whatever the other person was saying.

An idea popped into my head, and before I could talk myself out of it, I started tugging my shirt down, exposing a little more skin.

Xavier’s eyes flicked to me, and for a second, they widened. He cleared his throat, his hand tightening around the edge of his desk, but he didn’t say anything.
