Her Sweetest Mistake (Amelia) novel Chapter 74

Teacher Taboo/ Best friend DAD

She looked at me for a long time. Then, finally, she sighed. You’re just like your father.

I smiled a little. That’s a compliment, right?

She chuckled softly, shaking her head. He was stubborn as hell.

I get it from both of you, then,I teased.

That made her laugh, and for the first time in what felt like forever, the weight between us lifted.

So,I smirked, nudging her. Speaking of love livesHow’s Daniel?

She rolled her eyes. Not now, Ariana.

Oh, come on. I saw the way you smiled at your phone earlier. You’re in love, Mom.

She sighed dramatically. That man is too nosy for his own good. I told him everything, and now he’s furious. He’s insisting on driving us to the courthouse and the airport tomorrow.

I grinned. He sounds protective.

He’s a pain in my ass,she muttered.

But you love him,I singsonged.

She huffed. Go to bed, Ariana.

I laughed, but then my smile faded. Do you think Dad would be disappointed in me?

Her expression softened. No, baby. He’d be worried. But he loved you more than anything. He’d just want you to be happy.

I nodded, blinking back tears. You’re going to be the best grandma, you know.

She scoffed. I am too young to be a grandma.

I giggled. Well, too bad. You are one now.

She smiled, shaking her head. I guess I am.

That night, I curled up beside her in bed, just like I used to when I was little. We held onto each other, knowing this was our last night together before everything changed.

The next morning, we arrived at the courthouse.

Richard was already waiting, looking nervous. But before he could even say a word, Daniel stormed up to him and-

Bam!

Daniel’s fist connected with Richard’s face.

Daniel!Mom gasped.

Richard stumbled back, holding his jaw. He didn’t fight back. He just stood there and took it.

Daniel glared at him. You’re lucky I’m even standing here you son of a bitch.

Richard swallowed. I know.

With barely any ceremony, we stood before the judge. Danie had even brought wedding bands, simple silver ones, but they were perfect.

Do you, Richard, take Ariana

I do.

Do you, Ariana, take Richard-

I do.

I slipped the ring onto Richard’s finger, my hands trembling. His eyes met mine, and for the first time in a long time, I felt safe.

You may now kiss the bride.

Richard leaned down, pressing the softest kiss to my lips. My heart pounded.

It was real.

We were married.

As we stepped outside, my mom grabbed Richard’s arm. Take care of her,she warned, her voice firm. Or I will hunt you down.

Richard nodded. I swear to you, I will.

The drive to the airport was quiet.

When we arrived, my heart clenched. This was it.

I turned to my mom, throwing my arms around her. I love you,I whispered, trying not to co

She squeezed me tightly. I love you too, baby. She pulled back, wiping my tears. You hear me?

I nodded quickly. I promise.

Daniel pulled me into a onearmed hug. Take care, kiddo.

I will.

Richard placed a hand on my back. We should go.

With one last deep breath, I let go of my mother and took Richard’s hand.

As we boarded the plane, I stared out the window, watching the city shrink below us. Richard’s hand rested on my baby bump, and I leaned against his shoulder.

A new life waited for us in Chicago.

I just didn’t know what that future would hold.

Hey, Vanessa. She typed into the message box. I’m here

No answer. She decided to go in herself. It was better than keeping the poor taxi driver out there when it was about to rain.

Let me alight here. Thank you.Cheryl paid off the driver and began to drag the heavy box to the gate.

This was Vanessa’s new house so it would be hard navigating the inside. She glanced over the address sent to her over and over again. This was the place. She opened the gate and walked down the stony pathway that curved through to the large porch of the mansion.

On one side, a bed of grass spread out and on the other side, different kinds and colours of flowers. Walking further down, she could see a large statue of a snake placed in the middle with water running on each side to form a water fountain. The house was both beautiful and ancient from the outside. Not to mention the size.

When she got to the door, she dropped the box and pressed the door bell, expecting Vanessa to show up immediately.

The sky was now rumbling with thunder, flashes of light traveling through the clouds. Cheryl stomped her feet impatiently. After another ring, the door finally clicked open.

Thank God.She whispered to herself. Where have you been? I’ve been-I

Oh. My. God. Her heart skipped a beat and her legs frozen. She didn’t know what to do except glance back up to see her friend’s father raise a brow at her.

But nothing could prepare her for what he said next.
