Chapter 259
Nathaniel’s POV
The phone buzzed on the table, cutting into my review of the monthly report. A notification from the app lit up the screen, and my heart kicked up a notch when I saw it was a message from Annie.
I opened it without hesitation.
[Even on days when I don’t feel like getting out of bed… I definitely do. And speaking of beds… mine was really comfortable this morning, and yours…?]
There was an attached photo.
I almost dropped my phone when the image finally loaded.
Annie was lying on her side in bed, photographed from an angle that showed only her body-perfect curves highlighted by black lingerie that contrasted beautifully against her skin. The soft morning light spilled in through the window, creating shadows that made the whole thing even more intimate, even more tempting. The framing left out her face, but somehow that made the picture even sexier, more mysterious.
My eyes tracked every detail: the gentle curve of her waist, how the panties hugged her hips just right, the way the bra lifted her breasts. The effortless pose, like she had just woken up like that, was natural and breathtaking. It was too intimate, too real, and my body reacted instantly in a way that made me grateful I was behind the desk.
For a few seconds, all I could do was stare at the screen, trying to process what I was seeing. The contrast between office-Annie who was formal and composed… and this intimate, provocative version of her was throwing me completely off. It was like discovering layers of her I’d never imagined existed, and now I wanted to explore every single one.
My mouth went dry as I kept staring at the photo, trying to wrap my head around the fact that Annie-my TheAnnie, the woman who could drive me insane with just a glance across the office, had just sent me that. Heat
shot straight through me, and I had to adjust myself in my chair. 1
With slightly shaky fingers, I typed a reply.
Wanderer: Funny… my bed is perfectly made. But looking at you like this, I think I prefer the mess we could make together.
Her response came almost instantly.
Annie: So you get to keep imagining… while I can only guess? I think we need to even the score, don’t you?
I smiled despite the frustration of wanting her so badly I couldn’t think about anything else. Annie had always been smart-she knew exactly how to push me in ways I didn’t know I was vulnerable to.
Wanderer: Want to level the score? I can show you… but only if you promise you won’t leave me imagining everything alone after that.
After sending it, I paused. Did I have any picture even remotely close to what she’d just sent me? I replayed my gallery in my mind-definitely nothing like that. I’d have to take something new, and obviously I couldn’t do that in the office.
I glanced back at her photo, and the heat surged even harder. I couldn’t get it out of my head. Every time I blinked, I saw her curves, her soft skin glowing in the morning light-and it was making it nearly impossible to focus on any actual work.
That was when I heard the knock on the door.
Through the glass wall, I saw Gwen approaching with the determined expression that usually meant she had something important to discuss. I took a few deep breaths, trying to calm myself down and make my body look at least halfway decent.
No luck. My mind was still stuck on Annie-on what I wanted to do with her, on what I wanted her to feel with me. As long as I didn’t stand up, I could hide it.
“Come in,” I said, staying firmly seated behind the desk.
Gwen stepped inside and closed the door, slipping into that straight-to-business posture I knew too well.
My phone buzzed again with another message from Annie.
Annie: I promise.
Annie: Actually… I could even help you mess up that bed of yours even from far away.
–
My heart kicked up again, all my worries about Gwen fading for the moment. Annie was taking this to a whole new level, and I was more than ready to follow her lead.
I typed with slightly shaking fingers.
Wanderer: Can I call you later? We can make things a lot more… interesting. How about 10 p.m.?
Her reply came in seconds.
Annie: Call me.
And right after that, she sent me her phone number. The one that I, Nate, already knew. But one Wanderer wasn’t supposed to know.
I was going to call.
