Chapter 313
Nathaniel’s POV
The scene that unfolded when we entered the bedroom was something I’d carry with me for the rest of my life.
A man was on top of Annie, forcing himself on her while she tried to fight him off with weak, uncoordinated movements. It was obvious she was under the influence of something. Her reactions were slow and her strength was limited, but she was still fighting with everything she had left.
What I felt in that moment went far beyond anger. It was something primal and overwhelming, a raw fury that swallowed me whole and wiped out any trace of rational thought.
I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t think.
I lunged at him like a wounded animal protecting its mate, grabbing him by the shoulders with a strength I didn’t know I possessed and ripping him off Annie. He hit the floor hard, the sound echoing through the room, his eyes wide with shock. Before he could react or even try to get up, my fist connected with his face with everything I had.
The impact was brutal. I felt skin split against my knuckles, felt blood, but the physical pain meant nothing compared to the rage consuming me. It was as if every civilized instinct had been stripped away, replaced by something older and more feral.
“Nate…” I heard Annie whisper faintly, her voice slurred, barely there.
Hearing my name pulled my attention away for a split second, just long enough for him to recover and land a punch to my face. Pain exploded behind my eyes, but it did nothing to slow me down.
I went back at him even harder, striking his stomach, then his face again. He tried to defend himself, but he was outmatched.
I had purpose.
“I’ll kill you!” I shouted, completely losing control. “I’ll kill you, you son of a—”
Hands grabbed me from behind before I could do real damage. Hotel security had arrived, pulling me away while others restrained him. He was bleeding, dazed, barely conscious.
“Nate!” Tori appeared at my side, gripping my arm tightly. “Get him out of here! Now!” she shouted at the guards, pointing at the man. “Everyone out of the room!” she ordered, her voice sharp and commanding in a way I’d never heard before.
Charles motioned for everyone to comply. Security dragged the attacker out while Tori practically shoved Charles and the other staff into the adjoining room.
“Close the door,” Tori said firmly. “Give them privacy.”
The door shut.
For the first time, it was just Annie and me.
“Nate…” she whispered again, trying weakly to sit up.

Tori hesitated, biting her lower lip.
“It’s awful to be the one to tell you… I didn’t want to hurt you, but-
but-”
“What photos, Tori?” I pressed, my voice coming out steadier than I felt.
Reluctantly, she handed me her phone.
The moment I saw the screen, my world stopped.
Annie.
On a bed I didn’t recognize. In compromising positions. With a male figure partially visible beside her.
My heart didn’t just break, it shattered. Completely. Like someone had crushed it under their heel. The pain was immediate and brutal, so intense it felt like the air had been ripped from my lungs. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion, horrifying, impossible to look away from. Every image was a blade. Every angle carved deeper into a confusion and sense of betrayal I couldn’t even begin to process.
It made no sense. None of it.
Annie couldn’t be with another man. Not after the smile she’d given me when she arrived. Not after she’d answered my message with see you tonight.
And yet the images were there. Undeniable. The white dress on the floor was proof they were taken tonight.
The pain was so sharp that, for a moment, I honestly thought I might fold in on myself right there.
While I was still struggling to process what I was seeing, Tori kept talking.
“Alexandra said people in the group are saying he’s a Eisenwald investor and that-”
“Alexandra?” I cut in sharply, lifting my eyes from the phone.
“Oh, Nate, come on,” Tori said defensively. “The messages came through right in front of her. She was just as shocked as we were when she saw the photos.”
Something still didn’t add up, and even through the emotional wreckage, my analytical mind kicked in. If Alexandra was somehow involved, if she was the first to see the photos, the one who “explained” the situation to Tori, that made everything feel even more suspicious.
I knew Alexandra well enough to understand exactly how far she was willing to go to get what she wanted. I’d seen her subtle manipulations in business meetings, her talent for orchestrating situations that conveniently benefited her, her ability to make people dance to her tune without even realizing it. And I knew precisely what she wanted. She’d made it clear more times than I could count, with supposedly casual comments, persistent invitations, unnecessary touches during professional conversations.
Alexandra wanted me.
And Annie had always been the biggest obstacle.
Another obvious question surfaced: how had these photos leaked in the first place if Annie and this man were supposedly alone in a hotel room? Who would document something that private? And more importantly, why would anyone share it?

“I did,” I said softly, pulling her a little closer. “And I always will. Whenever you need me.”
We stayed like that for a while, Annie slowly relaxing against me as the initial shock began to ebb. I kept stroking her hair, whispering reassurance now and then, doing everything I could to make her feel safe again.
A gentle knock on the door broke the fragile calm.
Tori peeked her head inside, careful and quiet.
“The police want to speak with you,” she said softly.
