Steam still clung to my skin when I opened the door to the suite’s bathroom, wrapped in nothing but a white towel that smelled like our fresh lemon soap. Nate was kneeling beside the bed, his muscular back tense as he plugged the last cable into the outlet near the nightstand. The late-afternoon light streaming through the curtainless window gilded his damp skin, highlighting every muscle shifting beneath the surface.
“All set,” he announced, turning with a tired smile that made my chest tighten with love. “Now we’re officially living here.”
I didn’t answer. I just crossed the few steps between the bathroom and the bed and collapsed onto the mattress, my towel slipping open in a dangerously careless way. A groan escaped me, one that came straight from the depths of my soul.
“I am not moving a single muscle today,” I declared to the ceiling, every fiber of my body screaming with exhaustion.
I heard Nate chuckle softly before standing up. His footsteps drew closer, and then his face appeared in my line of sight, upside down.
“You look like a completely worn-out angel,” he murmured, brushing a damp strand of hair off my forehead.
“An angel who carried fifty boxes of books,” Ishot back, closing my eyes as his fingers began massaging my scalp.
He pulled away, and I heard the shower turn on in the bathroom. Water rushed out, filling our small sanctuary with its soothing sound. I stayed exactly where I’d fallen, my towel now completely open beneath me, with zero energy to fix it.
After a while, the water shut off. The bathroom door opened, and Nate appeared in the doorway, wearing only a low towel around his waist, droplets still trailing down his defined chest. His green eyes traveled over my motionless body on the bed, and a slow, dangerous smile curved his lips.
“So this is how you’re helping finish organizing?” he teased, tilting his head.
I cracked one eye open.
“I’m testing the bed. A crucial step in the moving process.”
He walked over, his shadow falling over me. “Testing the bed, huh?” he repeated, his voice lower now, silkier. ” And have you reached a conclusion?”
“It’s soft enough,” I murmured, closing my eyes again.
I felt the mattress dip as he knelt beside me. His fingers traced the line of my leg, from my ankle to my knee, sending a shiver straight up my spine.
“Softness is important,” he agreed, his hand sliding up to my hip. “But I think we should test a few other things too.”
“Like what?” I asked, my voice coming out more breathless than I intended.
His palm slid to my waist, warming my already sensitive skin. “Durability, for example,” he whispered, as his

lips brushed the soft curve of my stomach.
A sigh slipped from my lips as his kiss turned into a trail of gentle, teasing bites moving upward toward my chest. His towel loosened, revealing more of him but I was far beyond noticing details that mundane.
“Nate…” I murmured weakly, even as my body arched beneath his mouth.
“Shhh,” he soothed, his lips now exploring the underside of my breast. “We’re conducting scientific tests. We need to be thorough.”
His teeth grazed my nipple, and I moaned, my hands burying themselves in his still-damp hair. He smiled against my skin before taking my breast into his mouth, his tongue circling with a devotion that stole the air from my lungs.
While his mouth worked on one breast, his hand claimed the other, his fingers squeezing and stroking until I was arching into him, my legs parting on their own.
“Resistance seems promising,” he murmured, his mouth moving lower again, kissing me through the thin fabric of the towel that still separated us in a few places.
My hands found his towel and tugged at the knot impatiently. The fabric gave way, revealing him completely, and then he was over me, his warm, solid body pressing me into the mattress.
“But we still need to test stability,” he whispered into my ear before sliding into me in one smooth motion that drew a soft cry from my throat.
His arms wrapped around me, holding me steady as he began to move, each thrust a silent affirmation of possession, of love, of home. The bed creaked softly beneath our combined weight. It was a sound that promised to become familiar, part of the soundtrack of our life together.
“Stability,” I gasped, my nails digging into his back, “seems excellent.”
He laughed, low and affectionate, before capturing my lips in a kiss that tasted like the future and fulfilled promises. His hips moved with a rhythm that was both urgent and reverent, as if he were trying to fuse our souls through skin.
The outside world disappeared-the unpacked boxes, the papers waiting to be sorted, the endless tasks ahead of us. There was only this room, this bed, this man who loved me with an intensity that still sometimes stunned
When my climax hit, it was like a wave that started deep inside me and exploded through every cell of my body. I cried out his name, my body arching beneath his as pleasure washed over me,
Nate gripped my hips, his own movements turning erratic before he followed, burying his face in my neck with a muffled groan that was the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard.
For a long moment, we stayed like that-entangled, our bodies pulsing against each other as we tried to catch our breath. Slowly, the world returned-the distant sound of traffic outside, the scent of clean wood, the soft creak of the floorboards as the house settled into evening.
Nate rolled onto his side but kept one arm around me. My eyes were closed, but I felt his kiss on my shoulder.
“Conclusion?” I asked, my voice rough with exhaustion and pleasure.

“The bed passed all tests,” he replied, his fingers tracing slow circles on my skin. “But we’ll need more data before we can publish the results.”
I laughed softly, my eyelids heavy.
“Scientifically responsible.’

“Exactly,” he murmured, his voice already thick with sleep.
Outside the window, the sun finally set, painting our new bedroom in shades of amber and gold. Somewhere in the house, a faucet dripped softly, and the wind moved through the trees outside-small sounds that would become the soundtrack of our life together.
And lying in that bed, with the man I loved asleep beside me, I knew we were finally home.
