Chapter 477
Madeline’s POV
I’d spent the last two days organizing everything in secret. It hadn’t been easy to coordinate a photo shoot at Sullivan Park without Marcus finding out-especially since he now had access to practically everything related to the park, now that I was the majority owner and we’d used his lawyers to make it all
official.
But I managed it.
I hired a photographer who specialized in maternity shoots, someone with a beautiful, discreet portfolio- exactly what I was looking for. I explained that I wanted something natural and intimate, something that truly captured the moment.
When I told Marcus that Saturday morning that I’d scheduled a maternity photo shoot at the park, he was visibly excited.
“That’s an amazing idea,” he said, smiling in that way that always made me melt. “What time is it? I need to make sure security is fully set up before you get there.”
“You don’t need to worry about that,” I replied, keeping my tone casual. “I already coordinated everything with the security team. I just need you to take me there.”
“Of course. I’ll stay nearby while you’re doing the photos.”
“Actually,” I said, pretending I’d just thought of it, “I think I want you in the photos too.”
Marcus blinked, clearly surprised.
“Me? In maternity photos?”
“Why not? She’s your daughter too.”
He smiled, but I caught the hesitation in his eyes-the same discomfort he always had with being the
center of attention.
“If you want,” he said. “I just thought maternity photos were more about the mom and the baby.”
“I want you there,” I insisted, squeezing his hand. “Please?”
“Okay,” he agreed, kissing my forehead softly. “Whatever you want.”
We arrived at the park in the middle of the afternoon, when the light was perfect-golden and soft, just like the photographer had suggested. Marina, the photographer, was already there with her assistant, setting up equipment near the carousel.
“Madeline!” she greeted me warmly. “And this must be the dad. Marcus, right?”
“That’s right,” Marcus said, shaking her hand politely. “I’ll stay nearby while you work.”

“Oh no,” Marina said, glancing at me with a knowing smile. “Madeline was very clear that she wanted you in the photos too.”
We started with simpler shots-just me, posing near the carousel, one hand resting on my belly, the breeze gently lifting the light dress I’d chosen specifically for the shoot. Marcus watched from a
distance, smiling every time our eyes met.
After a few minutes, Marina gestured for Marcus to come closer.
“Let’s do a few shots of the two of you together now. Marcus, come stand behind her. That’s it-put your hands on her belly, over hers.”
I felt Marcus step in behind me, his warm body against my back, his hands finding mine over the curve of my belly, growing more noticeable every day. It was a familiar touch, but there was something different about doing it deliberately for the camera-about turning that intimacy into something meant to last forever.
“Perfect,” Marina said, snapping several photos. “Now, Marcus, tilt your face toward her neck. You don’t have to kiss her, just get close. Madeline, close your eyes and relax.”
We did as she asked, and I felt Marcus’s warm breath against my skin, my heart instantly picking up speed.
“Beautiful,” Marina murmured, continuing to shoot. “You two have incredible chemistry.”
We went on for a while longer, Marina guiding us through poses that grew more and more intimate. Marcus sitting on the carousel floor, me between his legs, leaning back against his chest. The two of us standing, him behind me, his lips almost brushing my temple. Me facing him, looking into his eyes while he looked down at my belly.
The tension built with every pose, every intentional touch, every moment we had to stay still in positions that felt both natural and deeply vulnerable.
“Now I want some on the carousel itself,” Marina said, motioning toward it. “Can you both get on?”
Marcus helped me onto one of the horses, then climbed on behind me, his arms wrapping around me to keep me steady.
“Madeline, turn a little toward him,” Marina instructed. “Marcus, look at her like you’re about to say something important. Yes… perfect.”
I turned to Marcus, our faces suddenly very close. I could see every detail of his green eyes, every lash, every subtle shift in his expression. There was something there that told me he was just as affected by
the closeness as I was.
“Now,” Marina said, her voice softer, “I want you two to kiss. It doesn’t have to be long-just… a real kiss. Can you do that?”
My heart raced. Marcus looked at me, waiting for my cue. I gave a small nod, and he leaned in, closing the distance between us.

The kiss started soft, almost chaste-exactly what a photo would call for. But something shifted halfway through. Maybe it was all the tension that had built up during the shoot. Maybe it was the vulnerability of being there, intentionally creating memories. The kiss deepened, becoming more real, more us.
I completely forgot about the camera, the photographer, the fact that we were being watched. There was only Marcus-his lips on mine, his hands cupping my face with so much tenderness it made my chest
ache.
When we finally pulled apart, it took a few seconds to come back to reality. Marcus was looking at me with an intensity I recognized, but there was something reverent there too.
“Thank you,” he said softly, “for letting me be part of this.”
Maybe he still thought I’d push him out of our lives if the baby turned out to be Dominic’s. But she wasn’t. My daughter was Marcus’s daughter, beyond any DNA test. Maybe I’d given him mixed signals after everything I heard-or thought I heard-at the hospital during the camp. But I needed to apologize for that. I needed to make it clear that my daughter and I wanted Marcus in our lives forever.
And there was only one way to say that. One way to say it in the purest way possible.
“I love you,” I said, the words coming out naturally, inevitably, as if they’d been waiting inside me for the right moment to finally be set free.
