Hired a Gigolo Got a Billionaire (Zoey and Christian) novel Chapter 613

Chapter 613

Gwen’s POV

“Of course,” I answered easily.

He led me into the small office, that cozy space that always smelled like old wood and aged books. He closed the door behind us.

“Is everything okay?” I asked, leaning back against the desk. “Did something happen?”

Nick picked up a white envelope from the cluttered surface. The bank’s logo was stamped in the corner.

My stomach dropped.

“This came on Monday,” he explained, handing it to me. “I’ve read it a few times, but honestly, I can’t fully understand all the implications.”

I took the envelope, pulling the letter out carefully. I unfolded it and read the first lines, even though I already knew exactly what they would say.

Formal notice of credit assignment to KWJ Holdings LLC

My company. My money. Staring back at me from official letterhead.

“I thought maybe you,” Nick continued, running a hand through his hair, “since you understand more about how companies and banks work, could explain what this means in practical terms. Is it really bad? Catastrophic?”

I forced myself to breathe evenly. To keep my expression neutral. Professional.

I lifted my eyes from the paper.

Looked straight at him. At those honest green eyes filled with real concern and absolute trust in me.

At the man I loved.

And the man I was deliberately lying to every single day.

Christian and I had agreed we would analyze each case in the debt package individually. One by one. Meticulously. We would do everything properly, legally, documented, with no loopholes that could come back to hurt us.

And that obviously included Nick’s case.

Even though I knew with absolute certainty we would never enforce his debt. Even though I had no intention of collecting a single cent from him. We still had to follow every formal procedure.

Especially if I didn’t want to be exposed before I could tell him the full truth on my own terms.

“You don’t need to worry,” I said at last, folding the letter and handing it back to him. “This could actually

end up being positive for you.”

Nick frowned deeply, confusion written all over his face.

“Positive?” he repeated slowly, like I’d just switched languages. “How is my debt being sold to some unknown company possibly positive?”

I forced a reassuring smile and hoped it looked convincing.

“There are fairly strict laws protecting debtors, Nick,” I explained carefully. “This company can’t just show up tomorrow and seize the collateral. They’ll be legally required to give you reasonable notice. Offer negotiation. Follow specific procedural steps. That buys us valuable time.”

I paused, letting that sink in.

“And things are already improving visibly,” I continued, with more energy now. “Did you see the amazing response to Darius and Laura’s posts? The reach they got?”

“I did,” Nick agreed, visibly relaxing, his shoulders dropping slightly. “It’s already brought in a surprising number of new clients. Bookings for the next two months have gone way up.”

“See?” I said, letting my smile turn more genuine. “Perfect. Exactly what we needed. Everything’s going to work out in time.”

Nick nodded, clearly wanting to believe it, but there was still tension lingering in his shoulders, in the way he held the envelope.

“Have you ever heard of this company?” he asked, looking down at the printed name. “KWJ Holdings LLC? Do you know anything about how they operate? If they’re reasonable when it comes to negotiations?”

“No.” The word came out maybe a little too fast. “I’ve never heard of them before.”

A lie. A blatant lie, straight to his face.

“Do you think I should try to contact them?” he asked, already running through options. “Call before they come to me? Try to propose some kind of agreement ahead of time?”

I stepped closer and rested my hand gently on his shoulder, feeling the tightness in his muscles beneath

his shirt.

“Relax,” I said as softly as I could. “They’ll reach out to you when the time is right. Tonight, the only thing you need to worry about is how to keep my brother from hating you.”

Nick’s eyes widened dramatically, like that possibility hadn’t even crossed his mind until now.

“Christian,” he said slowly. “He seemed pretty nice when he got here. Polite. He doesn’t… he doesn’t hate me… does he?”

I couldn’t stop the laugh that slipped out when I saw the worried look on his face.

I leaned forward and kissed him quickly.

“I’m kidding,” I murmured against his lips. “My brother already likes you just for taking such good care of

  1. The rest is just basic social formality. It’s going to be a perfect night.”

Nick relaxed completely now, his arms wrapping around my waist as he pulled me closer.

“A perfect night,” he repeated, like he was convincing himself.

Except I couldn’t have been more wrong.
