Chapter 672

Hearing Julian agree so easily made Raymond unexpectedly uneasy. Would Sydney even want a brother like him?
Back when they could not acknowledge her, he and the family longed for the day they could. Now that the time had finally come, they found themselves at a loss.
Raymond nodded. “Don’t worry.”
Sydney had made it safely through childhood because Julian protected her. Now the two of them were inseparable. If the Huttons had not appeared out of nowhere, Julian would probably have taken her straight to City Hall by now.
By any measure, the Huttons owed him prior notice. More than that, it would be best to have his consent.
In the back garden, Sydney curled into the swing and spoke on the phone..
Marcus sounded as warm and pleasant as ever. He laughed softly. “You really want to go back to seeing patients at the clinic? Even if your body can handle it, I can’t make that call. Alan has to approve it first.”
“Mm.” Sydney smiled. “That’s why I need you on my side first. Then I’ll work on Alan.”
As long as Marcus agreed, she could visit Eliana and raise the issue with Alan while she was there. She was fairly sure that once he checked her pulse, he would approve.
Alan had always believed that healthy people needed something to do. If they stayed idle too long, their spirits would sink. He
would not want that for her.
Marcus knew her well. “Sounds like you’re confident.”
“You can tell?” Sydney did not deny it. She smiled. “So, do you agree?”
“Of course I do.” Only then did Marcus begin to complain in earnest. “I haven’t dared tell you this, but every time your old patients come in, they crowd the front desk asking, ‘When is Dr. Wilson coming back?’ The poor receptionist is about to lose it.”
Sydney and Alan had completely different styles at the clinic. One was patient, gentle, and emotionally comforting. The other was efficient, direct, and never wasted a word.
When the treatment outcome was the same, patients naturally preferred the former. As they put it, the moment they walked in and saw Sydney smiling, half their discomfort seemed to fade.
Marcus mimicked their tone perfectly.
Sydney laughed despite herself. “Alright. I’ll go see Alan this afternoon and do my best to rescue all of you as soon as possible.”
After hanging up, she was about to sit a while longer when she heard footsteps approach.
She did not turn around. “Raymond left?”
“He did.” Julian walked over. One hand hovered behind her back. The other rested on the swing and gave it a gentle push.
The winter sunlight felt warm. The swing moved softly, back and forth. Sydney narrowed her eyes in contentment. “I want to go to Alan’s house later.”
Ever since Eliana recovered from the poisoning, one thing after another had come up, and she had not visited even once.
Julian asked, “To see Eliana?”
“Yes, but not only that.” Sydney set her toes on the ground and stilled the swing. She tilted her head up to look at the man behind her. “I want to go back to the clinic and start taking appointments again. I need to talk to Alan first.”

The words had barely left her mouth when something felt off.
Maybe she had been independent for too many years. It suddenly occurred to her that, given their current relationship, this was something she should discuss with Julian as well.
She stood slowly and studied his expression. “I didn’t mean I wasn’t going to talk to you about it…”
“Talk to me about what?” Julian smirked, his voice low and gentle. “This is your career. You decide. I support you completely.”
