Chapter 745 Extra 14

Christian’s POV

Pregnant.

Zoey was pregnant.

The word still felt too big to fit inside Annabelle’s bedroom, but it was real all the same. Real like her

hand gripping mine. Real like the test sitting on the sink. Real like the silence that came before the moment we finally looked at each other.

Our second child.

Or daughter.

I blinked once, like my body needed time to catch up before my soul could.

I’d spent weeks chasing adrenaline.

And I had just found it.

Just not the way I expected.

“I wanted to surprise you…” I said, still a little dazed. My own voice sounded different to me. Softer. Not the CEO. Not Kensington. Just me. “Turns out I’m the one who got surprised.”

Zoey smiled through her tears, and that smile hit me like sunlight after a week of relentless London rain.

“I know,” she murmured, wiping her face with the back of her hand like she was annoyed at her own emotions. “I can’t believe I needed Matthew to figure this out for me.”

She let out a shaky laugh. Then she took a deep breath and, with the same impulsive decisiveness she always had when her heart was too full, she turned.

“Oh, and by the way…” Zoey tilted her head toward the still-closed bedroom door. “I’M PREGNANT!”

What happened next was chaos.

The bedroom door flew open, and Annabelle rushed in first. Her eyes were wide, hands covering her mouth like she’d just witnessed something holy. Matthew came right behind her, carrying a kind of pure, overflowing joy that didn’t quite know where to land. Nate followed, wearing that rare smile of his. The kind that, when it shows up, lights up the whole room.

They all wrapped Zoey in a hug at the same time and pulled me into it.

I breathed in the scent of Zoey’s hair. Felt the slight tremble in her body. Felt the full, undeniable weight

of it.

We were having another baby.

And I couldn’t have been happier.

“Oh my God,” Annabelle kept repeating, laughing and crying all at once. “Oh my God, Zoey,”

“I told you something was off,” Matthew muttered, but his voice broke into a grin. He hugged his sister tighter, and for a second, I could see the boy still living inside the man.

Zoey looked at me over Annabelle’s shoulder, and in her eyes was a quiet question. Are you okay?

I answered the only way that mattered.

I held her tighter.

Annabelle pulled back first, like she’d suddenly remembered she needed to breathe.

“Are you staying?” she asked, already slipping back into her “I can organize everything in twenty minutes” mode. “I’ll have them prepare a celebratory lunch.”

Nate let out a resigned sigh.

“I need to head to the office,” he said, like he was apologizing for being responsible. “I was on my way

when I ran into Christian and…”

I lifted a hand before he could finish.

“Nope,” I cut in, firm, though I couldn’t stop the smile tugging at my mouth. “Everyone’s off today.”

Nate looked at me like I’d just declared a national holiday.

“I want my best friend celebrating with me,” I added.

Annabelle made a pleased sound, Matthew let out a short laugh, and Zoey looked at me like I’d just given her something money couldn’t buy.

And somehow, I had.

A few hours later, the house had slipped into full celebration mode. The kitchen looked like it had produced food out of thin air. The dining table was set with that effortless elegance Annabelle had mastered. Cloth napkins, beautiful dishes, nothing over the top.

Ginger, their golden retriever, circled the table like a hungry little satellite, sniffing every dish with unwavering hope. She’d stop beside one of us, rest her chin on the edge of a chair, and give that impossible-to-ignore look.

Zoey was sitting beside me. Every now and then, I’d reach for her hand, just to remind my body this was

real.

“And you?” I asked Anne and Nate as the first round of food was served. “Any news?”

She let out a laugh.

“With three kids and a dog, most of our updates revolve around diaper brands and dog food,” she said,

pointing her fork at Ginger, who pretended she had nothing to do with it.

Nate raised an eyebrow, all mock seriousness.

“That’s not entirely true,” he corrected, his tone light and amused. “School supplies are also a hot topic.”

We all laughed before he continued.

“But we are planning a romantic vacation.”

Anne turned to him like he’d just spilled a secret.

“You’re telling them?” she asked, her voice laced with a smile.

“I’m telling them because I want to sound like a romantic man without putting in extra effort,” Nate

replied.

The table burst into laughter.

“Of course, the logistics will involve babysitters,” he went on. “But-”

“I completely understand,” I said.

Annabelle tilted her chin toward Matthew.

“Enjoy it while you still have time,” she told him.

Matthew swallowed a laugh and answered with a drawn-out, “Yeah…” that carried more meaning than it

should have.

“Yeah… maybe we don’t want to have time for that long.”

Anne and Zoey let out a synchronized “oooooh,” that unmistakable sister sound when they catch a hint of subtext and decide to turn it into entertainment.

Matthew rolled his eyes.

“You two are unbearable.”

That’s when Ginger chose to press her cold nose against Zoey’s stomach. Zoey jumped, then laughed, resting her hand gently on the dog’s head.

“So you knew already, huh?” she said softly, petting her like even her voice was careful. “I might just steal you for myself, you know. All it takes is Annie slipping up.”

Nate chuckled and pointed his fork at them.

“You know, I think Ginger figured it out before we did with our last daughter too,” he said. “She’s got a gift.

Annabelle looked at Matthew, her eyes gleaming with playful mischief.
