Chapter 41 A Hit and a Miss
“And what do I get out of this?” Austin asked.

Alicia had spent more than enough time to get a read on him. So, she bit her lip and whispered, “My cycle’s almost over. How does tomorrow night sound?”
“Then, it shouldn’t hurt for you to give me a little something to tide me over until tomorrow, yes?”
He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulled her into his embrace, and kissed her deeply.
“No, you can’t. Not here-” her voice cut off.
Meanwhile, David wasn’t paying any attention to Aria’s long-winded and dull explanation about orchids.
The piano had stopped in the middle of their stroll. So, he couldn’t help but turn toward the attic window.
He soon caught a fleeting glimpse of a woman in a white dress being pulled away from view.
He could only see the barely there swish of her skirt before the curtain fell, hiding Austin from any prying
eyes.
A soft breeze blew past just then, causing her skirt to flutter slightly.
In the meantime, Alicia was about to lose it. She knew that the people in the backyard had a clear view of her window. Alas, she was trapped against Austin’s chest, her limbs powerless to stop him.
Fortunately, David could only see the curtain swaying. It’s probably just the wind.
Alicia tried her best to pull away, gasping urgently, “Austin, not here!”
“Am I not your legal husband? Why are you acting as though we’re having an affair?” Austin demanded coolly, clearly displeased with her. They were already married, but she refused to go public about their relationship or even allow him to appear as her husband.
She drew the curtains shut and dragged him over to the piano bench before wrapping her arms around his neck as she sat on his lap. Then, she whispered sweetly, “Just a few more days, please? When this is all over, I promise-”
Austin pressed her against the piano keys, causing a clash of notes to ring out.
He absentmindedly played a few keys, but his lips never once ceased their assault.
A sliver of sunlight slipped through the curtains and fell across her neck, creating a delectable scene of a woman lying across the piano as she trembled beneath his touch. He took his time with her, savoring the
moment.
No one noticed anything amiss down in the backyard. Instead, all they could hear was a few dissonant notes occasionally shattering the serene melody of “Ballade Pour Adeline.”

David couldn’t help but glance up at the attic window. Alas, the curtains were shut tight, and there were no signs of the woman in white.
He had absolutely no clue that the woman who had been haunting his thoughts was currently flushing prettily for Austin as she begged for his mercy.
Everyone returned to the living room by dinnertime.
David frowned in confusion. “Isn’t Uncle Austin supposed to be here? Why haven’t I seen him?”
Just then, Austin descended the stairs, acting as if the Gibson residence were his home.
“Uncle Austin, where have you been? I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
“I heard someone playing the piano and decided to check things out. My apologies if I overstepped,” he replied smoothly with a sweep of his gaze over the crowd.
“Of course not, Mr. Burton,” Aria hastily replied with a silver quick smile. “That was my sister playing. I’m afraid she’s not very good… I’m sorry if she has offended your ears.”
Austin didn’t even bother glancing Aria’s way as he straightened his cuffs and answered smoothly, “No, she played beautifully.”
The words landed like a slap across Aria’s face. Hence, the Gibson family immediately rushed to change the subject.
David pulled Austin aside when no one was looking. “Uncle Austin, did you go to her room earlier?”
“Is that not allowed?” Austin retorted with an arch of his brow.
David got the message. Still, he couldn’t help but find it amazing that Austin could still fool around with a rash-covered woman.
“Of course, it’s allowed. I just find it amusing that neither the Burton family nor the Gibson family seems to know about your relationship with her. Her parents are still pushing for a marriage between me and her younger sister.”
A smirk appeared on Austin’s lips. “She’s just shy. Try to be understanding, will you?”
David snorted. “I didn’t know you had it in you, Uncle Austin. Guess you do like a bit of spice in your life, huh?”
He wrongly assumed that they were simply enjoying the thrill of having a secret affair right under everyone’s noses. Thus, he had no intention of prying further.
Kyana busied herself by trying her best to flatter David. However, Austin’s gaze drifted toward Aria, who was shakily pouring them a glass of wine.
Everything about her just screamed, “I am guilty!”
After a while, she placed a glass of wine before David and said, “Mr. David, this one’s for you. My father has
