Miguel was immediately sent back to the time when he’d heard the mystery woman’s voice at the executive meeting. A look of surprise and realization appeared on his face as he remarked, “So that’s her.”
Tasha sighed in frustration. “What a pity. I was hoping she could become my daughter-in-law.”
David shrugged indifferently. “Why feel sorry when I love someone else?”
“Regardless of everything, I’ve already promised the Gibson family that we’ll be having dinner with them tomorrow. You should still be there even if you aren’t interested. It’s good for business,” Tasha reminded him.
“Fine.”
David returned to his room, his mind a mess. He had already sent his subordinates to investigate every single hospital specializing in oncology. Unfortunately, there had been no good news so far.
He couldn’t care less about the Gibson family, not when his mind was filled with Alicia.
The following morning, Frank frowned at the red spots marring Alicia’s face. “Really? You have to get an allergy now, of all times? David is coming tonight. How are you supposed to meet him when you’re like this?”
“Then, why bother? With a face like that, Mr. David would run to the hills screaming,” Aria said with a smirk.
Alicia played along, replying mildly, “Dad, I’ll just skip dinner tonight.”
“You’re useless,” Frank barked before storming off, completely missing the victorious smirk on Alicia’s lips.
Aria had decided to pull out all the stops. After the dinner yesterday, she could tell that David wasn’t interested in her at all-her hopes of becoming David’s wife would be dead if she didn’t make a move.
So, she decided to take a leaf out of Kyana’s book and spike David’s drink.
Alicia saw everything go down. However, she didn’t stop Aria.
After all, this was precisely what she wanted. David would learn about her true identity one day.
Would he still dare to look her in the eye if he slept with her half-sister? Frankly, she couldn’t wait to find
out.
The actors were already in position. Soon, the show was about to begin.
She began playing the piano up in the attic, her fingers gliding over the keys effortlessly.
Alas, she had no idea that David would wander over by mistake. He knocked, asking, “Who’s playing?”
Alicia’s playing didn’t falter. Just then, Aria dashed over, saying hastily, “Mr. David, this is my sister’s room, She’s always been rather… withdrawn. She’s not one for socializing, I’m afraid.
“Plus, she broke out in hives just recently and isn’t feeling well enough to greet guests. I’m so sorry.”

David withdrew his hand from the door, saying apologetically, “My apologies. I didn’t mean to intrude.”
Aria beamed up at him sweetly. “Why don’t we take a stroll in the garden? The flowers are beautiful this time of year.”
As they strolled through the garden, she subtly poisoned his mind with gossip. She whispered all sorts of nasty things just to paint Alicia as a moody and entitled brat.
Sadly for her, David wasn’t that much of a fool. Although he had never met the eldest daughter of the Gibson family, he was well aware that she’d been sent abroad when she was 10. In fact, she had only been allowed to return to the country very recently.
Her relationship with the Gibson family was so awful that she didn’t even have a room of her own and was only given a room in an attic.
Plus, there was no way his cold and calculating uncle would fall for some useless socialite.
Besides, Tasha had been singing Alicia’s praises ever since they’d met, from her beauty to her grace and down to her capabilities.
To David, Alicia was his goddess. Plus, Austin had made it clear that the eldest daughter of the Gibson family was his. All in all, David wasn’t interested in anyone from the Gibson family. So, he saw no point in exposing Aria’s lies.
He was only here to maintain appearances for the sake of the upcoming business deal between two families.
Austin had arrived at the Gibson residence unnoticed. Everyone’s attention was on David, so he had a huge entourage accompanying him as he went to the backyard.
Austin listened as the music up in the attic switched to something more intense. Someone was playing “Croatian Rhapsody”, and he didn’t need two guesses as to whom.
Alicia had endured and was still enduring years of humiliation just for this very moment. She’d even sacrificed her own marriage just to wage war on the Gibson family.
This was the sound of her war drums playing.
As Austin climbed up the stairs, the music brought to mind a woman dancing to the furious tune, uncaring that her feet were bloody and the ground was smoking. She was akin to a phoenix rising from the ashes.
He knocked on the door just as the last note faded to a close.
Alicia’s face pulled into a frown of displeasure, thinking that it was Kyana warning her off. So, she snapped, “Don’t worry. I’m not leaving the attic tonight.”
However, a familiar muffled voice came from the other side of the door. “Is that so?”
She stiffened before leaping to her feet and rushing for the door.
There stood Austin in a gray-white suit, his usual jagged edges softened into something almost warm.
She wasted no time dragging him inside her room and locking the door behind her. “What are you doing
here?”
