Chapter 478 Silent Obsession
Some called for help; others whispered. A few bystanders performed CPR on him.
His heart had stopped.
When he came to, he was in a hospital bed.
His grandparents, dad, stepmom, little brother, and Lily all surrounded him.
Everyone except his stepmom and brother had red, teary eyes.
“You’re awake.” Beatrice gripped his hand tightly.
Julian’s throat burned dry. He mumbled weakly, “What happened?”
Frederick stared at him, his voice rough and strained.

“You nearly dropped dead from exhaustion. A nurse saved your life. You would’ve died otherwise.”
“Thank that nurse for me.” Julian spoke plainly. “I don’t have time to do it myself.”
“Your dad will handle it.” Beatrice frowned. “Why don’t you have time?”
Julian sighed and glanced around. “Where’s my backpack?”
“What for?” His grandpa, Leonard, handed him the bag nervously.
Julian propped himself up and held out his hand. “My book. I still have fifty–six words to memorize.”
Every family member froze in shock.
Frederick snatched the bag, tossed it outside, then stormed back into the room, seething.
“No more studying. Even if you never lift a finger, you’ll never go broke. I can give you anything you want. Stop pushing yourself. Got it?”
Julian nodded at Lily. “Go get my bag.”
She hurried out to fetch it.
“All of you leave. I need rest.”

“Promise you’ll stop studying, and we’ll go.” Frederick didn’t back down.
Julian nodded listlessly. “Fine. I promise.”
He only agreed to ease their worries.
Once they left, he pulled out his textbook. “You can go too,” he told Lily.
Lily bit her lip, quiet anger in her eyes.
“Julian, who’s Iris?”
Julian blinked, caught off guard.

Lily felt guilty and spoke up. “I saw her name all over your book. You even wrote ‘Iris, wait for
me.”
Julian’s expression turned cold. “Don’t go through my things again.”
“Is she the campus beauty from Oakridge High?”
“Campus beauty?” Julian looked surprised. “People call her that now?”
Lily’s tone turned sour.
“Of course. Everyone knows her. She’s pretty and smart. Teachers love her and boys obsess over her.”
Julian dropped his guard.
“I like her. I want to get into Oakridge High just to stay close to her.”
“Don’t waste your time,” Lily snapped. “No one who chases her gets a good outcome.
“A guy from her grade almost got expelled recently. He harassed her, so she reported him.”
Julian stayed silent.
“His parents and teachers lectured him, but he wouldn’t back off, so she called the police. He barely avoided expulsion.”
Julian glanced at his book and smiled faintly. He only admired her more.
That was exactly how she should be.

“I’m not chasing her. I just want to be nearby.” He met her eyes firmly.
“I have a family to fall back on. She doesn’t. She can’t afford distractions.”
“Distractions?”
