Chapter 481 One Quiet Farewell
Julian needed to plan ahead for his future.
That was why he picked business administration.
He mapped out his entire college timeline. Once he graduated, he’d go overseas to further his education.
Chances to run into Iris grew slim on campus.
They belonged to different departments, and an invisible gap widened between them.
He stopped forcing himself to cross her path.
Even so, he always heard things about her.
Everyone knew her–the rising star of the medical department.
She accomplished astonishing feats throughout college.
She patented a special medication while still studying, earned a sizable fortune, and launched a small private research firm.
He crossed paths with her a handful of times, yet every encounter was nothing but a fleeting
pass.
The closest he ever got to her happened on one quiet afternoon.
She was hunched beside a big tree, one hand pressed to her stomach, cold sweat dripping down her face.
The second he spotted her, he bolted over.
“Iris, what’s wrong? Are you hurt? I’ll drive you to the hospital.”
She breathed unsteadily, her face contorted with sharp pain.
“No hospital. It’s just menstrual cramps. I’ll take painkillers back at my dorm.”
She gently pushed his hand away.
“Thanks, but I can walk alone.”
“Let me support you.” Julian reached out again.
She stepped aside and turned him down flat.
“I’m fine.”
His hand hung awkwardly in the air. He watched her walk off and let out a heavy, weary breath.
A sharp, dull ache twisted in his chest.
From high school through college, he’d shown up for her countless times.
Still, she never truly saw him.
He had good looks and no shortage of female attention, yet he could never catch her eye.
That same noon, he headed home and asked his household staff how to make cinnamon honey drink.
He added mild nourishing ingredients to make it more comforting.
Then he brought the drink to campus himself.
He paid one of her roommates two thousand dollars to pass it along to her.
The roommate delivered it for six days straight, before telling him to stop on the seventh.
“Is she still in pain?” Julian asked anxiously.
The roommate gave a soft smile.
“Cramps are normal for girls. Don’t keep sending these things. Odds are she won’t even drink it.”
“Why?”
The roommate let out a helpless chuckle.
“We’ve roomed with her for years. All of us have put on weight. Guys send her takeout, snacks and fruits nonstop. She might take a bite occasionally, but she usually gives everything to us.”
Julian pressed his lips together bitterly and nodded.
“I get it. Thanks.”
He never sent her anything again after that.
:
Plenty of guys pursued her in college, but she only focused on her studies and startup business.
Romance was the last thing on her mind.
Her admirers included men richer, better–looking, and more talented than him.
None of them won her over–most just irritated her with their persistent advances.
Julian knew he was no exception.
He never made any obvious moves to chase her. He didn’t even dare get too close.
He feared he’d bother her and leave a bad impression.
Four years of college flew by.
He made up his mind to study abroad.
Deep down, he figured he’d never stand a chance with her.
Even if he stayed in the country, would anything change?
The answer was clear–no.
On his departure day, he stood outside her medical research institute.
He just needed one last look at her before leaving.
He waited from daylight until one in the morning.
Eventually, she walked out of the building.
She dragged her feet tiredly, rubbing her stiff neck.
Tears stung the back of Julian’s eyes.
He desperately wanted to walk up to her.
He craved to say his name and pour out all his feelings.
