CHAPTER 0173
CHAPTER 0173
Meadow’s POV:
I didn’t think I’d ever seen my sister look like this.
Shocked.
To be fair, there was nothing special about it. We were practically mirrors of each other so I already knew what her surprised face looked like. But seeing Juniper like this? It had never happened before.
And right now, all I could say was that it was all worth it.
It scared me for a bit–the way she was so good at pretending to be me. Anyone who didn’t know me that well would fall for it.
“Meadow?” Juniper gasped loudly, the shock of it all forcing her to take a few steps backward. She turned to Alaric, a look of betrayal in her eyes, and all he did was smirk at her.
I chewed on the corner of my lip. “You didn’t really think my own husband would fall for your lies now, did you?”
She glared at me and a chuckle slipped from my mouth. “I mean, I know I dared you, but I didn’t think you’d actually try to
seduce my husband by pretending to be me, and then think he’d be so stupid to fall for it.”
Juniper rolled her eyes, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “I guess you’ll never know if he would’ve really fallen for it, huh?” she smirked. “I mean, you’re here with him right now, but what if you weren’t?”
My nostrils flared.
“You too have been married for what, ten minutes now? He can’t possibly know you that well to be able to tell the difference between us,” she scoffed, voice filled with smugness.
“You’d be surprised how much I know,” Alaric muttered. He stepped toward me, wrapping an arm protectively around my waist. “I suggest you leave right now, Juniper.”
My sister scowled at him. “I’m here to see my sister. Not you-”
“Funny,” I cut in. “I thought you came here to see my husband. Wasn’t that the whole point of copying me?” I scoffed. I started to step forward but Alaric’s voice was calm behind me. “Are you okay?”
I smiled at him, silently letting him know that I could handle it. I could handle her.
“You know, if you hate me so much, you really shouldn’t be trying to be me, Juniper-”
“Trying to be you?” she scoffed angrily. “No. No sane person would ever want to be you.”
Anger flared in my chest, threatening to burst out. I didn’t want to lose my temper. All that would show was that I was letting my sister get to me.
And that was the last thing I wanted.
But then, Juniper opened her mouth. “I’m only here because I had to get some information. And I had to get it the only way I know how.” Her nostrils flared, gaze shifting to Alaric who stood behind me.

My brows drew together. “What information would require seducing my husband?”
“I don’t know!” she snapped. “Why don’t you fucking tell me since you’re the one fucking married to the man who threw our
father in jail!”
My breath stuttered.
Juniper wasn’t supposed to know that. And the only way she would know about it was if our father told her himself or…
“You look tongue–tied, sis,” she drawled, stepping closer. “Is this you trying to pretend you don’t know anything about it? Or you genuinely don’t know? Because according to what Aunt Yvonne told me… you already know about it.” She tilted her head at
Alaric.
“I didn’t-“I cut myself short. I was about to say I didn’t know about it before I married him, but I didn’t owe anyone an explanation, much less Juniper. I raised my chin. “That is none of your business, Juniper.”
Juniper’s eyes flashed, her fists curling at her sides. “None of my business? He’s my fucking father, you bitch-”
Alaric stepped between us, lowering his voice. “I asked you to leave, Juniper. I fucking hate having to ask twice.”
She scowled at him, and a bitter laugh escaped her mouth. When her gaze shifted to me behind Alaric, I noticed that her eyes were teary. She looked back at him. “Oh yeah? How many times did you give the order to the prison guards to never let me see him again?”
For a second, I froze.
This was new information to me. Alaric hadn’t told me yet.
Juniper laughed again, maniacally this time as she looked at me. “Oh, you don’t know about that, do you? I went to see Daddy the other day, only to find out that I wasn’t allowed to see him anymore. They didn’t let me in, no matter what I tried. I vented to Yvonne, and that was when she told me everything. Everything.” She paused, and then smirked at me. “You married her sloppy seconds? Wow, that is just-”
Alaric started to step toward her but I stopped him. I pulled on his hand, and he turned to face me. And as expected, there was guilt written all over his eyes. His lips parted. “I was going to tell you-”
“I know,” I whispered. “And I know you did it for me, Alaric. But that’s exactly why I think you should leave us.” I reached for
his cheek. I wasn’t upset that he hadn’t told me yet—to be fair, all we had done tonight was have sex. There wasn’t enough time
for conversations to be had.
Alaric’s eyes drew together. “I can’t leave you here with her.”
My eyes watered. I shook my head at him, making sure my voice was low enough for only him to hear.
“You’ve fought so many of my battles for me, Alaric. Battles that should’ve been won by me. And I… I don’t want you to do that anymore. Especially since this is a battle I can handle all by myself. So just… please. I can handle myself, okay?”
Alaric stared down at me for a moment. The expression in his eyes shifted into something else. It wasn’t anger or sadness, it was
Pride, Love,
My heart fluttered, warmed as he cupped my cheeks and leaned in to give me a kiss. “I love you,” he whispered very softly. “And I’ll give you your space. By that, I mean I’ll completely stay out of sight. I’m still here, though, okay?”

After I nodded, he stood to his full height, turning to glance at Juniper who had her arms crossed in front of her chest, jaw clenched, eyes nearly rolling into the back of her head. And then he walked away.
