"You're forgetting, Thaddeus is practically Emeric's son-in-law. It's only natural for Cassius to help his sister's husband!"
The blinding white flashes of cameras exploded in Mr. Zade’s face, washing out his features. He swallowed hard, his gaze shifting to Chad on the stage just a few feet away. The sight of that pale, handsome, yet chillingly sinister face sent a jolt of fear through him.
But then, he remembered the numerous attempts on his life, and how Thaddeus and Gordon—the very men he had wronged—had risked everything to protect him. If he hesitated now, what kind of man would he be? His lifelong cowardice had already ruined his son; he couldn't let it destroy him, too.
Taking a deep breath, Mr. Zade straightened his shoulders and spoke, his expression grave.
"Some time ago, when Mr. Thaddeus Abernathy was hospitalized for a sudden illness, I was his attending physician, Baron Zade. I am here today to offer him my sincerest apology."
He turned to Thaddeus, his voice thick with guilt. "It was I who handed over Mr. Abernathy’s medical records and blood sample report to the police. I violated my professional ethics, an unforgivable breach that has severely damaged Mr. Abernathy’s reputation, caused him immense distress, and even cost him his position as CEO!"
Mr. Zade faced Thaddeus, clicked his heels together, and bowed deeply. "I am so sorry… truly sorry! I am willing to accept any and all consequences, including the permanent revocation of my medical license. A man like me… no longer has the right to be a doctor!"
A wave of shocked murmurs swept through the crowd. So, Thaddeus had been arrested because this doctor had provided the so-called evidence to the police?
A reporter quickly followed up, "Mr. Zade, why did you do it?"
"During Mr. Abernathy’s hospital stay, his brother's private physician, Ms. Alexia, approached me…" Mr. Zade shot a resentful glare at Alexia, whose face had become a rigid, twisted mask. "She used my wife's illness and my son's debts to blackmail me, forcing me to hand over the blood report to the police in order to frame Mr. Thaddeus Abernathy! Given Mr. Chad Abernathy's power, I had no choice… but to do as she said!"
"You're lying! I never asked you to do such a thing!" Alexia shrieked, her eyes bloodshot. She looked ready to lunge at him and tear him to pieces.
"I knew you'd deny it." Mr. Zade pulled out his phone and played a video for everyone to see. "You were careful to check if I was recording our conversation, but you never noticed the hidden camera in my office. This footage captured the entire exchange—your bribery, your threats. The evidence is right here. Your denials are useless!"
All eyes turned to Alexia, and then to Chad, their expressions a mixture of shock and suspicion.
Alexia’s mind went blank, the blood draining from her face. How could she have been so careless?
But it didn't matter. She had carried out the plan. She had never explicitly mentioned that Chad was behind it. He still had a way out. It was her failure, and she was willing to take the fall for him. Nothing could stand in the way of his ambition.
