Her Chasel was so damn impressive. If her brother couldn't win him back, he might as well join a monastery.
Thaddeus’s eyes burned brightly as he walked over to Chasel. He placed a heavy, trembling hand on his shoulder. The two men looked at each other, a world of unspoken understanding passing between them.
Alexia was sweating profusely. The evidence was irrefutable, and she couldn't think of a way out. All she could do was lash out in a desperate attempt to create a distraction. "Even if you have that report, at best it only proves that Thaddeus isn't an addict and this was all a misunderstanding! What proof do you have that our Sir orchestrated any of this?"
Evadne’s expression was icy as she slowly approached Alexia, a ghost of a smile playing on her lips. "So, if your Sir had nothing to do with it, does that mean it was all you?"
Alexia's eyes widened in fury. "Sir and I have never—" She froze, cutting herself off abruptly. A cold sweat broke out on her forehead, as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over her head. She had just called Chad "Sir" in public—a major taboo.
It was all Evadne's fault… that damn bitch! She had set a trap for her!
Chad's pale face remained impassive, but the tight line of his jaw and a throbbing vein in his temple betrayed the ferocious, dark rage hidden beneath the surface.
"A misunderstanding?" Jareth stepped forward to stand with Thaddeus. "You call this a 'misunderstanding'? Your little misunderstanding got my best friend branded a drug addict, ruined his reputation, and landed him in an interrogation room for days! He came out only to be fired from his position as CEO, vilified by his own company, and attacked by trolls online! And you think you can just dismiss it all with a 'misunderstanding'? If I killed your father and said it was a mistake, would that make it okay?!"
Watching him smile at Evadne, Thaddeus felt an uncontrollable tremor run through his body. That smile was like a cruel, curved blade, slicing his heart in two. One half was ripped out, exposed to the cold air, while the other remained, still attached by raw, bleeding flesh, quivering with every breath.
It had been a long, long time since he had felt such pain. A deep, aching pain for Evadne.
"Your personal physician, Ms. Alexia, claims you knew nothing, that you're innocent," Evadne said, her voice steady. Then, her eyes flashed, her gaze sharp and piercing. "But do you truly deserve the word 'innocent'? You listened to slander and, without any solid evidence, condemned Thaddeus as an addict. Instead of seeking the truth, you took advantage of the situation, threw your own brother to the wolves, and seized everything that was rightfully his. Chad, you are consumed by greed, driven by malicious intent, and have betrayed your own family. You are unfit to lead. The one who should step down from the CEO position is you!"
