“Mr. Thaddeus.” Gordon walked up to him, his face etched with concern.
Thaddeus quickly masked the thoughts in his eyes, feigning indifference.
“The signing ceremony was a success.”
Gordon looked at the large screen, at the radiant and graceful Mrs. Abernathy shaking hands with Chad, and felt a mix of emotions. “The only thing missing is that the man standing across from Mrs. Abernathy isn’t you.”
Thaddeus’s long lashes fluttered, and his thin lips parted, dry.
“As long as it benefits the Abernathy group and the contract is signed, it doesn’t matter who signs it with President Ashbourne.”
“Does it really not matter?”
“No.”
The man’s prominent Adam’s apple bobbed slowly. “It really doesn’t matter,” he said, his voice hoarse.
Gordon sighed in frustration.
This man was so stubborn.
His mouth would probably survive cremation.
“Mr. Thaddeus, didn’t you say you weren’t coming today? What made you change your mind?”
Thaddeus tore his gaze away from the screen and turned around, his expression blank. “No particular reason. I was bored sitting around, so I came to see what was going on.”
Gordon gritted his teeth. “Right, right! You should come! Even if you’re not in charge anymore, you should still show up and flaunt your existence in Chad's face, just to piss him off!”
Thaddeus shot him a look. “Am I that disgusting to look at?”
Gordon was speechless. “…”
In truth, he had come because he couldn’t stop worrying about Evadne.
This contract was important; it was the first major deal she had closed on her own since leaving him.
