His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 1378

Early the next morning, Thaddeus contacted Aaron and brought Holden to the police station to turn himself in.

As the cold steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists, Holden's shoulders visibly dropped. He offered a relieved smile, turned to Thaddeus, and bowed deeply.

"Thank you, Chairman Abernathy."

Thaddeus watched him in silence, giving a firm, respectful nod.

After Holden was escorted into the interrogation room, Aaron walked over with a brisk step and patted Thaddeus heavily on the shoulder.

"Good work, Thaddeus. With the secretary's testimony, we have an ironclad case. That bastard Chad won't be able to pull any more tricks. We're going to nail him for good this time!"

A faint smile touched Thaddeus's lips, and his eyes softened. "I didn't do much. It was Evadne. She set a trap at the Windermere Estate last night and cornered Holden. She had everything perfectly calculated. It was her brilliance."

Aaron couldn't resist teasing him. "Oh, listen to you! 'Evadne' now, is it? No more 'Ms. Evadne' or 'President Ashbourne'? Done pretending you two aren't close?"

Thaddeus's lips paled slightly. "Aaron, I..."

"I'm just messing with you."

Aaron squeezed his broad shoulder, letting out a heavy sigh as his tone turned serious. "Thaddeus, I'm her brother, so naturally, I'm going to be a bit biased. Evadne has suffered entirely too much for you. If you really want her to be happy, then this time, grab her hand tightly and never let go.

"If you break her heart again, she's going to shatter, and she'll never be put back together."

Thaddeus's throat tightened, his chest aching with a sour heaviness.

Of course he wanted Evadne to be happy. But could she truly find happiness tied to a man like him—someone plagued by chronic illness who could collapse at any given moment?

He settled on a compromise, his voice gravelly. "Once this business with Chad is settled, I'll do everything in my power to fix my relationship with Evadne. I'll give her everything I have to make up for all our lost time."

"Hearing you say that puts my mind at ease," Aaron said, exhaling a long breath.

...

Gorman looked as though he were attending a funeral. "Mr. Abernathy, the police are gathering more evidence by the minute. Your situation is extremely precarious. The case from over twenty years ago might be past the statute of limitations, but with Alexia's murder... the police are almost certainly going to formally charge you with premeditated murder."

Chad's lips curled into a smirk. "Almost certainly? What if there's a surprise?"

Gorman was stunned. "What do you mean?"

"In the safe at my private villa, there's a medical diagnostic report. I need you to retrieve it and submit it to the police. It's a trump card I've been holding onto, waiting for the perfect moment to play it."

Chad's eyes grew icy and ruthless, practically glowing with desperate madness. "After that, I want you to contact Mayor Sean. How he pulls the strings is his problem, but he must get me out on medical bail."

"Will Mayor Sean... actually do it?"

"He has to."

Chad rested his chin on his hand, flashing a smile that sent shivers down Gorman's spine. "Otherwise, I guarantee he'll die right in front of me."
